“Overall, disappointing”

My family booked a cottage for a one week stay at $125/night. We really tried to like this place, but ended up very disappointed and checked out after 4 nights. It didn't start off well - after a 7 hour plane flight and 3 hours of driving, we arrived at the 3pm check in time to find no one in the office. We called the 'emergency number' posted on the door and left 3 messages, but no one answered. We waited for over 1.5 hours with a sick four year old and a trunkfull of perishable groceries in 100 degree heat before another current guest arrived, and she thought that the innkeeper, Barbara might be at a nearby memorial service. We drove there in desperation and finally found Barbara, who came back to the inn to let us in to our room at nearly 5pm. It wasn't a big deal really that she wasn't there during check-in time, but at least leave us a note with the key, or something, so we could plan accordingly! At many other B/Bs we have stayed at the innkeeper was not physically there to check us in but left keys/notes which works just as well for us.

The cottage itself was very clean, and the kitchen applicances new, but the whole setup/layout was uncomfortable. The bedroom is so tiny that it is difficult to open the bedroom door to even get in, and you can't physically walk around the bed (and I am not huge, at 5 feet 3 and 106 pounds!). The inn books itself as 'luxury accomodations' yet the bed was unbelievably uncomfortable (sinking in the middle) and there were only 2 pillows. The bathroom was cute but had no room for toiletries such as toothbrush, etc so our stayed in the living room. Other details seemed to have been overlooked as well - the kitchen had no towels, pot holders, etc. Only one frying pan without a lid was available for cooking. Also, service was bizzare. Someone clearly entered the room after our first night and placed a vase of fresh flowers on the table, but no one bothered to make the bed, empty the garbage or replenish toilet paper. On another day, somone came in and made the bed, but again didn't empty garbage or provide more toilet paper. On two separate days after this I approached the gardener/housekeeper asking for more garbage bags and toilet paper (she was the only person on the property) and she told me she didn;'t have the key to the supply room and Barbara wouldn't be around. She suggested I try calling the 'emergency phone number' but we didn't bother - where did that get us when we had tried to check in? So, we had to go to the grocery for toilet paper and trash bags, which is totally unheard of in any place we'd ever stayed. The 'continental breakfast' advertised on their website was laughable - a basket was in the room with instant coffee/tea with creamer and sugar packets, two wrapped biscotti (the brand that comes in the big cases at Costco), and two packets of microwave popcorn. The other truly bothersome thing was this cottage is only about 10 feet from the highway, so trucks rattle by all night with their engine brakes on - not exactly a relaxing retreat. I never cared one bit that the cottage was 'creekside' - there is no way to hear any creek sounds with all the vehicle traffic outside. My downtown San Francisco apartment was 10 times quieter than this.

Were there any upsides? Yes - the unit was very clean. The gardens were large and very beautiful and clearly lovingly maintained. Barbara seems like a nice person, and the town of Cobb is very pretty and servicable with restaurants, a large grocery, etc. But I'm not sure what good all that is without personal hygiene supplies and a quiet, comfortable room to sleep in. In our opinion this inn is absolutely not worth the money and falls short in almost every way, compared with other places we've stayed in the Lake County area.

We had a miserable time at this inn. No service, right on the road, and the cabin wasn't clean.

“Vacation Wonderland Right Around The Corner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 May 2005

There is a vacation wonderland right around the corner from you if you live in Sonoma, Napa, Marin, Mendocino or Lake County. It is Cobb Mountain California, located in the heart of Lake County.
The spring and summer time provide swimming, golf, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and every other outdoor and water sport imaginable!
The winter is equally as wonderful with snow fall that rivals the Lake Tahoe area. The Cobb area is as beautiful as any place on earth and the snow fall provides opportunity for you and your family to sled or frolic.
The Lake County area is also becoming well known for it's wine tasting opportunities, so ENJOY!
The Inn At Kelsey Creek is convieniently located and is the perfect place to stay whether you are a couple seeking privacy and romance, or a family with children of any age.
The Inn features five beautifully decorated cabins and is located directly across the road from the Rob Roy Golf and Country Club, here you can enjoy a round of golf and a spectacular meal in the clubhouse afterwards.
Steps away is a deli, liquor store, grocery store, pizza parlor, video store and much more.
There is no need to go any where else. Clear Lake which is minutes away offers you water skiiing, jet skiiing, fishing, swimming. The national forest just up the road is beautiful year round and here you can hike, horseback ride or just enjoy the scenery.
Every time I go to the inn for a visit, it gets more and more difficult to leave!
