We arrived at 3:05 PM as we knew that we could not check into our room until after 3:00 PM. We were asked by the clerk, what he could do for us. I had printed our reservations confirmation on August 29, 2011. Today’s date is October 2, 2011. I told him I had reservations and gave him my name and the confirmation letter I brought into the office with me. He went on the computer and then asked when I had made the reservation. I pointed to the printed date and he started his search again. It appeared as though he did not know what he was doing. After some time and after he had perused my paperwork several times, he found us. He claimed that the internet reservations sometimes didn’t get logged.
I asked for a 1st floor room as I had recently had major back surgery. He said he had us on the 2nd floor and there were no rooms available on the 1st floor. He told us that if we waited awhile a desired 1st floor room would be available. We decided to go get an iced tea at one of the local restaurants while they finished cleaning our room.
We returned to the motel at 3:50 PM and he told us our room #148 was now ready. I thanked him and we went to our assigned room. When we opened the door, we were instantly taken aback at how small and awful the place was. I had been told by the young man that there was wifi signal in all of the rooms and when I got in side, I noticed there were no chairs in the room at all. There was a desk to set up my laptop but there was no chair to sit and type. Just outside our unit there was a very dirty and rusty barbeque unit and around it there were several chairs. I finally found one that did not have most of the webbing destroyed and I took it to my room so I would have a place to sit and use my computer. I was embarrassed that I had tried to save a few dollars and subject my wife to such a dump. As I feared, when I turned on my computer, the signal was so week it barely allowed me to sign on and the signal was so poor that internet use was exceedingly slow and very frustrating.
My wife started to turn on the light over her bed so she could read and she discovered that the light above her bed had burned out. The light at the computer table was not plugged in and I needed the only outlet available for it to be plugged in for my computer. Beings I was unable to use that light, I removed the light from that lamp and replaced the burned out lamp above her bed. The air conditioner meantime kept rattling trying to cool down the room; it was very annoying and was very ineffective in cooling the room.
I looked to the area above the miniature fridge and microwave that I noticed were not plugged in and in the area of the safe, I found the area to be filthy and there was evidence of spilled coffee and plain old dirt.
My wife by now is really getting scared that this was such a bad place that she felt fearful for her safety. I did the deadbolt lock but noticed the secondary safety latch was gone from the door. The hinged mechanism on the door frame was there but the mechanism on the door was gone and it appeared as though the door might have been forcefully opened and stripped that mechanism from the door itself. That certainly didn’t help ease her safety fears.
She went into the bathroom to take a bath and learned that there was no bath, only a shower. She was really disappointed but decided she could make do. She went to retrieve a wash cloth and discovered there were none in out unit. She marched down to the office and told the young fellow there that there were no washcloths in our room. He said he didn’t have any either.
I finally went to turn on the television and using the remote control I soon learned that the remote was non-functional … probably a dead battery.
This place is the worse we have encountered in almost 30 years of traveling and to charge the price they collected from us to stay in this broken-down pigsty is a travesty. Pay a bit more and stay somewhere safe, clean and functional, this place is absolutely terrible.
