“A Dying Hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2010

The people who work here are friendly and helpful, but the place shows many signs that it's dying. The rooms are inadequately cleaned. There were long hairs on the blanket, cigaret burns on the quilt (a non-smoking room!), sections of wallpaper missing in the bathroom. Exterior posts are uniformly rotting at their base. The continental "breakfast" was insulting--the most paltry spread I've ever seen, served in an unheated room. The pool/spa area was inexplicably padlocked. People knocked on the door of the adjacent room all night long. Why? Drugs? Hookers?

We had a three-night reservation and would have left after ten minutes, but were too tired from driving. The desk clerk was happy to cancel the rest of our reservation the next morning, without charge.

“Pet friendly to the extreme -- stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2009

Just returned from 3- night stay. Hotel space in town is tight during the Claremont Colleges Parent Weekend, and this looked like a good value. Unfortunately, we pre-paid for the entire stay -- big mistake! The room was wasn't even "OK" -- the shower had mildew along the grout lines, the shower faucet leaked, and the beds were terribly uncomfortable. There was evidence of earlier plumbing failures near the walls around the sink. Maid service was attentive until the last day when all that was done was to replace our towels and make the beds. Used soap and shampoo containers weren't removed from the bathroom.

To top it off, I can appreciate that some hotels like to be known as pet-friendly. However, the hotel was hosting a dog show ... and we're talking very large dogs. Some rooms housed two or more St. Bernards -- beautiful animals, but there were so many dogs barking, walking the grounds and doing their business on the lawns that we NEVER strayed off the well-worn pathways.

Continental breakfast was limited -- some Costco mini-muffins, a couple of varieties of bagels, toast, juice & coffee. Oh, and a pan of hard-boiled eggs for the early arrivals.

You can do better elsewhere.

“Yuck!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

The room itself was okay, nothing special, and the beds were comfortable, but the grounds were filthy. There was trash by the pool that was left at least 24 hours, and the pool looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. I wouldn't even take off my flip flops, let alone actually enter the water. Yuck!

“A pleasant stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 June 2007

We stayed six nights in the Hotel Claremont while visiting relatives nearby and would happily stay there again. Our room was clean, comfortable and well-maintained. While the hotel is near the I-10 freeway, our room facing the pool was very quiet. Staff was pleasant and responded immediately when a light burned out. Continental breakfast was light -- bagels, Danish, muffins, coffee and OJ. There's a restaurant open 24/7 next door, if one is an insomniac, is suffering from jet lag or can't live without a hearty breakfast.

“Just awful! Stay away!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2007

We stayed one night at this hotel while visiting nearby colleges. The Hotel Claremont is a dive. The rooms are old and dirty, kicked in hole on the bathroom door, uncomfortable beds - overall very well worn rooms. The hotel staff was nice enough - breakfast is minimal, bad coffee, donuts and bagels. The worst was the homeless person passed out sleeping at the ground floor ice machine. Stay away from this hotel. I wished we had paid a few dollars more for some better accommodations just the other side of the freeway. We will be more vigilant with our future hotel planning in the future!
