“Fell flat of expectations!”

We have stayed at the other Cayucos bed & breakfast. So we were anticipating the same hospitality...did not happen. The only good thing of our trip was the beds were nice. Other than that we were VERY disappointed. We stayed here with our 1 and 5 yr. old children.
At the evening appetizers, there was only wine, beer and some kind of sausage and mustard. We don't drink and especially my kids. There was no one around (hotel wise) to request anything else-water or crackers. There was not an evening dessert, as their website states. Then came the breakfast. They had a menu posted for breakfast. We were looking forward to the blueberry pancakes. We got there for breakfast @ 10am. There was some form of a breakfast pizza and a mixture of yogurt and fruit in a wine glass. There was only coffee to drink. We asked one of the staff members for orange juice and he acted like he was doing us a favor to get it. Just a side note: our kids were NOT the only kids there! We saw several families there. We will never stay here again!

“Spacious room and a great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2007

Upon arriving we were very pleased to be upgraded to the nicest room at no additional cost. Its what they consider their honeymoon suite which worked out nicely since we were on our honeymoon. It had a huge canopy bed, a view of the ocean-close enough to hear the waves, a fireplace, mini fridge and microwave, nice bathroom with a jetted bathtub for 2, a balcony, and an outdoor spa right next door. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The manager made reservations for us at Hoppe's. She was very friendly, though she never did send up the complimentary champaigne she said she was going to. We were the only ones at the evening wine and cheese reception so we basically had this huge platter to ourselves- delicious cheeses and bread. After a delicious, though somewhat high priced, dinner we took a late night dip in the spa and then went next door for happy hour at Schooners (the bar tender mixes a very strong daquiri). Breakfast was more of a normal breakfast than the specialty foods we enjoyed at other bed and breakfasts, but was still very good- fresh strawberries and kiwi, yogurt, pancakes, hard boiled eggs, and chicken sausage, plus orange juice and coffee. Everything was very quiet as there was only one other couple staying at the inn. The town was quaint with little antique shops and a tasty deli/bakery(in gas station) across the street from us. Though we thought the inn was a bit pricey it was worth it for the upgrade and overall it was romantic and peaceful.

“Beautiful view, relaxed atmosphere”

We spent two nights at the Pierpointe Inn in mid-August. We had an upstairs room directly overlooking the beach and pier. The room was very large, clean and very nicely furnished. It included a balcony (from where we could see south to Morro Rock), a fireplace, a large TV with cable, and a jacuzzi bathtub. We paid $275 a night, which is probably one of the best deals you can get along the California lower coast for ocean front property these days. Note, the place is more a small inn, and not really a bed and breakfast. You do not get the fancy, big breakfasts offered in most bed and breakfast places, nor their personalized touches. On the other hand, you feel more like you are in a hotel rather than invading someone's personal home.

The beach in front of the hotel is wonderful, though the weather was a bit cool if you like to lay out in the sun or go in the water without a wet suit (as is common in the central coast). There were some nice tide pools a short walk to the north. Cayucos is a small town with little to see or do there, other than the beach. However, there is lots to do in the area. Besides Hearst Castle, there are a number of fine wineries within an hour's drive. We had great dinners in Cayucos at Hoppe’s Garden & Bistro (a short walk down the street) one night, and Schooner’s Wharf (next door) the next, and recommend both.

“Nice room, nice view but poor breakfast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 August 2006

We stayed in the most expensive room (204) with our 2 children. Price online was $290 - but when I phoned I got quoted $275.

This is a "B&B" - but very impersonal compared to all other B&Bs I've ever stayed at. It's really just a very small hotel with limited hotel facilities.

Having said that, the room itself was excellent - bigger than the $600 room we stayed in at the Mandarin Oriental the 3 preceding nights in San Francisco. The 2 beds were very large and very comfortable - again better than the MO. Large bathroom with 2 sinks and a spa which one of my sons tried.

Other points:
Free parking underneath.
Balcony overlooking Pier - although there is a road with a small parking lot between the Inn and the beach.
Room has fridge and microwave.
Large elevator to carry your own bags upstairs.

We were disappointed with the breakfast which was below average and for the price I would have expected considerably better. I don't buy the "it's free" argument.

Make sure you eat at Hoppes restaurant which is just across the street. It's everybit as good as everyone else says - it exceeded our expectations and was better than the majority of (good+expensive) restaurants we ate at in SF. Do not miss this one. It's not cheap but it is excellent.

“Beautiful Views, Nice Quiet Town, But Sometimes Too Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2006

My wife and I spent our honeymoon here from July 30-August 2. We loved our stay and everything about the inn. We stayed in room 204 which was a corner room with a near perfect view of the ocean. Our bed was extra comfy and well needed after all the exhuasting last couple months of planning our wedding came to frutrition. The staff was excellent and did a great job taking care of us on our stay. Unfortunately we were only able to take advantage of our dessert one of the nights we stayed, because we were usually out doing things.

The only issue we had was with the town itself. Being that Cayucos is such a small town they have a small selection of places to eat. Also because they are a beautiful beachside community the resturants that are located in the town feel they should seasonally raise their prices and take advantage of those spending time in the city. Not to mention most of the resturants were closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which made dining in the town impossibly (not to mention the lack of any non meat meals for my wife). So we spent more of our time in Morro Bay getting real food that wasn't seasonally artificially price increased.

We had a great honeymoon and we both highly recommend the Pierpointe Inn, just be prepared to go to Cambria or Morro Bay for dinner. :)
