“a lovely, older hotel”

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay at the Country Garden Inn at Carmel Valley. It was a truly peaceful environment, and we were made to feel very welcome. After a long day of traveling, it was perfect. We had asked for a cheese and fruit platter to be in our room when we arrived, and it was. When we checked in, we were also given two small carafes of red wine to go with the cheese and fruit, which was a nice touch!

I am an avid birder, and so I really enjoyed chasing the Anna's hummers which were all over the property. The room was quiet and comfortable, and the breakfast was also good. The only downside, for me, was that the internet was not adequate for me to do any work on. I do understand that the Inn is in a remote area, though. It is difficult to get any internet there, I'm sure, and I was grateful to have it at all.

The owners/managers were wonderful - friendly and accomodating. I would definitely stay there again if I were to be in the area. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

We were delighted to hear that our guest took such pleasure in our bird activity. Thank you for sharing the beautiful photo of the anna’s hummingbird. In addition, our SongBird Feeders are a big hit with guests and attract a variety of species. We were sorry to hear that our guest had issues with the Internet connection. We usually have an excellent WIFI signal with a fast connection and good performance. We always encourage our guest to let us know if anything is not working as well as it should. Although rare, we occasionally have to reboot the WiFi system. We certainly know how important internet access is. In addition our guest are always welcome to use our office computer.

“A wonderful stay, we would do it again.”

My daughter and I had a wonderful time at this quiet and lovely Inn. The dining room is beautiful and cozy, complete with fireplace - a fun place to have breakfast in the morning or a glass of wine in the evening. The service here is excellent! Dirk and Ann in particular went out of their way to provide everything we needed. The Country Inn is nestled in a gorgeous valley, close enough to Hwy 1 to make it convenient for coast travel. One of the most wonderful features is that so many little shops are within walking distance, as are lots of restaurants, a spa and a wonderful nail salon. Our room had a little patio overlooking the swimming pool. We parked right at our front door. All in all, we had a wonderful stay! I recommend Country Garden Inns highly. And their website is beautiful as well.

“Friendly but old Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2011

Stayed at this hotel last week on a Thursday night. We were one of 3 rooms booked! The people at the hotel were extremely friendly and the breakfast though not overally fancy (waffles/hard boiled eggs/yogurt) was in a very nice setting and served, so that was a plus. But the room was old - the door was just a patio door, and not very secure. It waa a cool and rainy night and since we had 2 teenagers booked a bigger room. Well the old wall gas heater went out overnight where the kids were and was cold the next morning. The landscaping was very nice and expect the owners try very hard - but only so much you can do with rooms this old (50's or 60's?). So would not say is was worth the $209 rate we paid. The town was very cute and if could get one of the other hotels would go back, since only about 90 minutes from home.

“Quiet and lovely place”

We looked for a place in central california to spend some days. Carmel Valley is a really nice place, near to the coast with Monterey, Carmel-on-the-sea and the Hw. 1, without the fog. Continental breakfast was ok, the waffles were gorgious. We liked the wine and cheese hour every day to have a chat and to plan for the restaurant. Great idea to present the menus of the restaurants near by!

We had to switch between the two houses for breakfast; we travelled every day so this was no problem. Place was quiet in september; pool was a little bit cold. Room was ok, sometimes the ac could have been working a bit more ...

We will definitely come back!

“Pictures don't represent all their properties”

It seems that this place is a group of smaller older motels, at least the one we observed. We checked in at the main office and then sent a mile or so through town to a side street. Driving up the street there was a chain across the drive, weeds growing through the asphalt, went to the next drive, the address we were given. It looked like a 60's motel, no other cars in the parking lot. We drove to the room, opened the door, and it still was a 60's motel inside. I don't know how it can be the #1 B & B on Tripadvisor, I'd hate to see the rest. We promptly went back to the place we checked in and left, a long drive for such a disappointment! The one positive thing is they did refund my money..

I feel badly that this guest’s expectations were not met. We don’t like to hear that any guest was disappointed.
Today, Carmel Valley, set in a pastoral setting, still proudly reflects a history and charm of Early California with an appreciation for nature, outdoors, bountiful gardens, and vineyards. The Village with many of its original historical structures has managed to keep that charm with very little change occurring with a handful of classic roadside inns designed for visitors to park their autos and walk to the village for food, wine, art and shopping. Country Garden Inns’ staff takes personal pride and responsibility in achieving a relaxed, enjoyable experience for our guests by the manner in which we care for the details of our guests’ stay while maintaining the historical appearance of an era gone by. Our housekeeping staff is exceptional and always complimented by our guests. Many of our guests have an appreciation for nature, country charm and comfort and return time and time again while recommending us to friends and family.
