“Perfect birthday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We spent a night at Bernardus for my birthday and it was about as perfect as it gets. Although we had a great coupon deal, the room would have been worth it at twice the price. We were greeted with a glass of wine and taken to our room. I was a bit concerned because it was in the strip that faces the entrance, but it turned out to be lovely and private. The landscaping off our private patio hid any trace of cars and it was very quiet. The room was gorgeous and we loved all of the goodies. Yes, you pay a $24 resort fee, but that was more than worth the two half bottles of wine and all the snacks. A few minutes after arriving in our room there was a knock at the door and room service had brought a complimentary bottle of Gloria Ferrer bubbly! Happy hour by the outdoor fire was so relaxing and we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather, even in January. Terrific service, beautiful room and grounds. We'll definitely return.

“Blissful Bernardus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Bernardus is located in Carmel Valley, about a 25 minute drive inland from Carmel by the Sea. The village of Carmel Valley with shops and restaurants is 2 miles away.
It
The hotel is comprised of a series of low rise stucco buildings in provencal shades of terra cotta, mustard and saffron set in peaceful gardens of lavendar surrounded by vineyards. Bernardus also has a winery and tasting room, they produce delicious pinot noir, chardonnay and other wine varietals from the organic estate.
The rooms are mini suites with a fireplace, sofa, coffee table and easy chair in the sitting area, a round dining table and two chairs nice if you have breakfast in the room and one or two very comfortable beds with fine linens. The t.v. is hidden in an armoire as is the closet.

The spacious bathroom has a bath tub for two, a large walk in shower, double sinks in a marble vanity and a separate toilet alcove. Bath products and deliciously scented lotions are in large refillable containers in lieu of the usual small hotel toiletries bottles which waste a lot of plastic and are not considered the "green" option these days.
The spa is peaceful and well equipped with a warm, friendly staff and a very comfortable relaxing room leading to a large warming pool set in a walled garden. The large swimming pool is heated in winter and can be used for laps even on a chilly day, just dash into the steam or sauna to warm up afterwards, all complimentary to hotel guests, even if you are not having a facial or massage, although why miss these special treatments while you're here?

The casual restaurant, Wickets, serves a good breakfast or lunch in a pub like room or on a large patio adjacent to the croquet and bocce lawn with a stone fireplace to warm a cold morning. Casual dinners are also served here and they make a tasty burger of pizza.

The formal dining room offers superb cuisine and service in a correct but non stuffy atmosphere. Plan ahead and reserve one of their seasonal special event dinners.
The restaurant food and service deserves a separate review.

The staff is well trained and friendly, from the valet car park men, to the room maids, front desk staff, a warm smile and a sincere greeting is offered each time you interact or pass them on the grounds. The conceirge knows all the best local golf, tennis, dining options.

This is a perfect get away, business retreat or honeymoon hotel, go to the website for special offers and more information about this delightful small luxury country inn.

Room Tip: Lower level rooms have patios, second floor rooms have balconies, ask to be by the spa if you like a...

“Perfect Anniversary Weekend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My husband and I stayed at the fabulous Bernardus Lodge to celebrate our anniversary last August. It was absolutely perfect! The staff was extremely attentive and courteous. The grounds are very lovely and peaceful. We enjoyed an afternoon playing bocce ball with other guests and then sipped wine in front of the open fireplace in the courtyard later that evening. We also played tennis at the tennis courts and lounged by the pool! We hope to return again soon!

“The Best Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Just spent three nights at the Lodge -- it was wonderful.
The staff really seems to want to provide you with the best experience possible, and largely succeeds.
Spacious room, quiet location, lots of nice touches and "included items" {e.g. glass of wine at check-in, free wine and snacks in the room, and two bottles of cold water placed in the car upon our departure.
For a top quality experience it was very reasonably priced.

“Luxury and more”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

This place is the ideal place if you want to get away and unplug for the weekend or more. From the moment you arrive to the when you leave you are taken care of. Our car was always a step away, the room was always clean and stocked. Their staff was friendly and service was excellent. I love their spa room!!!!! Can't complain about anything except I wish the bed was like the Four Season. Would recommend for relaxation, couples retreat, wedding and more.

Room Tip: $150.00 deposit if you want to bring your pet.
