The reason I booked this place is because they allowed me to bring my dog, who goes everywhere with me. I stayed in one of the suites, which is not on the main lodge property but very close on Via Contenta St. The suite had a private front yard, private but small back yard/patio, two bedrooms, kitchen, and living room. The suites do not have wi-fi. Carmel Valley is beautiful, w/rolling hills, vineyards, and abundant sunshine, unlike Carmel, which is often overcast and very cool. The weather was in the 70's, and I was able to walk in five minutes to numerous shops and decent restaurants. I liked the Wild Goose Bakery, the Village Fish House (across from Wild Goose), and Toast. Garland Ranch Park nearby is also beautiful for walks with your dog, as is the old air field up the street on Flight Rd (you just walk past Blue Sky and there is a wide gate to your left).
The accomodations were lived in and homey. Old carpet, frumpy sofas, 50's kitchen appliances, etc. just like others said. That didn't bother me at all. The fireplace is a nice plus, but doesn't have gas so you have to start it the old fashioned way. If the Valley gets warm, there is no AC. The bathroom was decent, but the toilet niche was very small, and I'm a big guy. But in spite of these things, I must say that I had an absolutely wonderful and relaxing time. Lots of fresh air and sitting in my front lawn was out of some kind of postcard of idealic vacations. I absolutely hate the closed-in, claustro feeling of most hotels. Read lots and even walked to the Lodge to spend a long time at the pool (which is heated). Since it is the country, bring bug spray if you plan to sit out amongst the beautiful landscaping.
The best part is the staff. I am not an easy client to please, and they were the kindest people who truly care for their patrons. Say what you want about the outdated furnishings, but don't bad mouth the owners and the staff. They are great people.
