There is a lot that is good about this hotel: the location is convenient to Point Lobos, Carmel, and points south, the rooms are very clean and nicely decorated with updated bed coverings and bathroom fixtures, the outside spaces are nicely landscaped and arranged, the breakfast food was basic but good, the employees were mostly friendly and helpful, and it is a great dog-friendly hotel - there is a paved trail and grassy area right next to the hotel.
There were a couple of small problems with our stay. It was a bit noisy in the room because of hallway sounds and the TV from the room next door (it seems this sort of noise can't be avoided in most hotels). Although most of the employees were kind and helpful, on Christmas morning, at the breakfast we had paid for as part of our "bed and breakfast" package, the employee attending to the coffee tried to charge me $2 for coffee. I said, "I have to pay for coffee when I already paid for breakfast," and he said, "Yes, because you have coffee in your room." Then he paused and said, "Oh, well, because it is Christmas you don't have to pay this time." Although we had just signed for one morning's breakfast for two, they charged us for two mornings. After we talked to them, they corrected it.
The price is right here and overall the stay was very good. If they can just iron out a few of the kinks, like not monitoring the coffee so closely, the experience will be excellent.
Room Tip: Choose a room facing the pool.
