We visited Carmel-by-the-Sea for a quick weekend get away from a business trip in San Francisco and decided to stay at the Best Western Carmel Bay View Inn.
We found the hotel to be quaint and well maintained and better than many of the Best Westerns that we have stayed at. We had a king bed room with a fireplace over looking the pool. The room was clean and well appointed with a very new, bright and large bathroom. My only complaint would be that the weather was very cool (30's at night) and there was only a small wall heater for the room that did not have any kind of a thermostat. When it was on, it was fairly loud but did a good job of warming up the room. We would have liked to have had an extra blanket. The Inn was quiet which is a big plus! If you are looking for the "bay view" request a room on the top floor. The ocean is a good 6 blocks away, but may be visible from one of the top most rooms. This really did not impact us since we walked down to the beach during the day and it is pitch black at night and you can't see anything anyway!
The location of the Carmel Bay View Inn was nicely situated right in the middle of the Carmel shopping and eating district. A word of advice....if you like to walk in the evenings, bring a small flashlight. Off of the main drag, streets are not lit and there are many uneven walkways. It makes Carmel charming but is also a challenge to walkers not familiar with the terrain. There is a small grocery store adjacent to the hotel which was very convenient for picking up a bottle of wine and some snacks.
The morning breakfast room was very nice with a good selection of continental breakfast choices. The morning staff was very friendly and went out of their way to keep everything filled, fresh and hot.
No complaints here.
Overall, if you are looking for a well located, clean and affordable hotel in Carmel I would recommend staying here.
