“Great- for Low end Carmel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2012

Ive stayed here a few times for a few reasons #1 it is the ONLY place in Carmel-by-the-Sea that will rent for a one night stay and #2 it is less than $200 for a night. I've only stayed in the updated rooms, the first time we booked 2 king premium rooms, one was the basic hotel room with bed, tv stand and bathroom and the other was more of a suite with a small kitchen area, king bed, chair and tv stand. A few other times I've booked the cottage- updated, 2 bedroom (2 twin, 1king and sofa bed) 1bath and a sleeper sofa in the living room.
Ive been to Carmel many times and usually stay in the high end boutique hotels that are $500+ per night and worth every penny in my opinion. Those that are new to Carmel usually expect the boutique experience at the Comfort Inn price and that just wont happen. Carmel is small, old and very European- therefore, rooms are small, expensive and out of date. You pay for what you get- the Carmel Lodge has nice clean and livable rooms with off street parking, decent customer service and a good location. You wont find better for the value of this hotel. I recommend staying here if you are trying to do Carmel on a budget.

Room Tip: Call or book with the actual hotel, not a travel website. Make sure you book a premium updated room...

First and foremost, thank you for staying with us on numerous occasions, we appreciate it. Also, thank you for writing a review from the heart and stating information about Carmel that some visitors may not be aware of. The charm here in town is like no other place in the United States. The history of Carmel is what astounds me and the geographical location is like no other. It is true that our hotel could use some updating and we are definitely working on it.
Again, thank you and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Most Sincerely,
Carmel Lodge

“Nice location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

We stayed here for one night during a whirlwind trip to Carmel. The hotel itself is fine for a quick stay. We had one of the standard rooms and although it was just fine it could do with some updating. The pink tile stand up shower was uninviting. We did stay in the standard rooms in what appears to be the older part of the hotel and the two other rooms our friends were staying in the the front side of the hotel were definitely nicer, with more room space and more modern upgrades.

What was very nice about the hotel was the front desk staff, very helpful and the location could not be better. Just two minutes walk to all the restaurants and shops and about a 10-15 minute nice walk to the beach.

We enjoyed our stay and next time if we stay for more than 1 night I will make sure we book the newer rooms. But all good value for the money, at least compared to other Carmel hotels.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I'm so glad that you had a nice stay and enjoyed Carmel and everything the town has to offer. It is true; the pink tile shower is definitely
"one-of-a-kind" and is outdated, I was hoping that pink tile would come back into style, but I am guessing that it won't. My apologies that it seemed uninviting, it is totally understandable. We are working on doing some upgrading and the famous “Pink Shower" may be nearing its end. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you the next time your in town.
Sincerely,
Carmel Lodge

“Great service made up for accomodations”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We stayed over the weekend at this Lodge. The price was good considering the room was so-so. The staff (specifically Carolina or Caroline?) made up for the rooms. She was very accomodating when at last minute we added in our pet and even called us at the restaurant when our room was ready. Overall the staff was very friendly. The room was your basic room but lacked any A/C and was stuffy all night (thank god there was a fan in the room we could use!). Realize at this time of year, heat is usually what is used but should have a working thermostate. Location was great and liked the free parking. Was referred to a couple of restuarants nearby that were great. Might consider staying here again only for the price.

Room Tip: was close to the office. a little noisy from traffic going thru.

“Good location, but lacks efficiency and customer service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Good things: Great location, free parking, dogs allowed, big rooms, comfortable bed

Needs improvement: Customer service, check-in, continental breakfast, dog fee was steep, noisy room, basic for price

We arrived at the hotel after 3PM (check-in is at 3) and our room wasn't ready. We decided to walk around while waiting for our room and finally got a call that it was ready at about 4:30. The room was in an older section of the lodge, right near the lobby (room 105). Being right next to the stairs and on the ground floor it was very noisy with kids and people walking around. The room itself was spacious with a large king bed and a large bathroom. We got a pet friendly room since we decided to bring our little frenchie with us. They charged us an extra $35 to have him there and we didn't even get a dog biscuit or water bowl in the room! We didn't need one, but it would have been a nice touch.

The location of the lodge is perfect. It is in the heart of Carmel next to all of the shops and walking distance to the beach.

The continental breakfast is located at an adjacent restaurant. The breakfast that they offer is weak and the set-up is very confusing and awkward. I would just skip it all together and pay for a good breakfast somewhere else.

Overall we had a great vacation, but I think I would research a different hotel the next time that I stayed in Carmel.

Room Tip: Choose a room in the newer section of the lodge that is not next to the lobby. Higher floors are le...

“Good location - Very basic motel, but we got a nice big room...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

We stayed there for only one night, on our way to San Francisco. The hotel is ok for one night. Complimentary breakfast was offered in a cafeteria nearby with limited choices included. The place was full and it took several minutes for us to be served... not worth! Apart from that, our room (the couple´s one) was spacious, clean and silent, nothing to complain about. The room assigned to our kids was far less impressive...

Dear Nani,
Thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to write a review. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed our premium room and that you had a good nights rest. My apologies for the breakfast taking too long, I am definitely going to work on getting the restaurant to speed things up in the morning. Thanks again and hope to see you next time your in the neighborhood.
Sincerely,
