“Old and dated rooms...but a great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Well, let's just say I wasn't pleasantly surprised...Let me start off on a positive note: the location is really good. End positive note.
The lobby is tiny- One small room. Nothing fancy. Upon entering the rooms, (we had booked 2 separate deluxe rooms; one with 2 double beds, the other with 1 king - both had kitchens, jacuzzis and fireplaces) the first thing we noticed was the smell. NOT good. My dad ran down to the front desk to get some spray. After opening all windows and spraying, the smell dissipated somewhat. The second thing we noticed was how unbelievably dated the furniture was! I mean, I felt like I had just walked into somebody's Grandmother's house...it was pretty bad. The sheets were worn, the blanket was worn, the throw pillows were ancient, the furniture was cheap and the carpet was threadbare. The fireplace was "rustic" at best, but at least it worked. I'm kind of starting to feel bad writing this not-so-great review, but I'm just being honest. Maybe if I had been warned of the decor I wouldn't have been so disappointed. There was a kitchen- old, ugly. The bathroom? All white tiles and old. The jacuzzi was small and, dare I say?...OLD. I attempted to use it (no bath soaps to be found) and it did work, but I was scrunched up and it felt kinda dirty. Afterwards, there were all of these little black things floating in the water...and I can guarantee they were not from me. Uggh. My parents didn't even have a tub stopper in their room- they had to call down to get one!
The fire pit outside was okay but we had the in-room fireplace so it wasn't really necessary. Breakfast in the AM was fine. I was prepared to receive my little cooler bag with basic foods of fruit, cereal, milk and pastry.
Bottom line: this was the cheapest room we could find in Carmel that had both jacuzzi and fireplace (and kitchen, but who really needs that?) and good location. If you're cool with OLD and dated rooms, go for it. You have been warned. Otherwise, I would have been willing to pay an extra $50 to go somewhere updated and modern.

Room Tip: Ask if they have any updated rooms!

“Nice cozy comfortable”

We enjoyed the location of the property and it's close proximity to town and restaurants. It was roomy enough for three adults. The outside fireplace was charming. We enjoyed the breakfasts left on our doorstep. All staff that we dealt with were kind and helpful. Liked the kitchen, livingroom with sitting area. In room fireplace was nice.

“Charming Inn, good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

Nice size room with king bed, fireplace and small kitchen with dining table. The mini-suite had a traditional, English feel. A breakfast basket was delivered to our door each morning with fresh pastries, etc. Yum. This is an older building, but very clean and charming, don't expect modernity here! It is right in Carmel so easy walking around town. All of Carmel is fairly expensive, but the Inn was a very good value for all that we got. Have stayed there three times, and enjoyed each room!

Room Tip: Try to get a large king room with the separate kitchen. Worth the money!

“Old and Dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

person found this review helpful

I don't mind old, but I expect cleanliness. Bathroom floor black with dirt, bathroom counter
covered with orange ooze. Pillowcases stained. Heater coming loose from wall and filthy
with diust and dirt and bugs crawling in crack. We had "deluxe" room! Continental
breakfast cheap. Warm milk, stale rolls and ceral. Better to stay next door at Fireplace Inn,
which we've done many times. Fireplace Inn, we're sorry and will be back to you.

Room Tip: Go to another hotel!

“Fantastic rooms and service.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 December 2011

Arrived early evening and was checked in by TJ. this guy was great with plenty of help about places to eat etc. He made us feel great and welcomed us to the hotel.

We stayed in room 15. king bed and double jetted tub. The real log burning fire was awesome and made the nights the little bit extra romantic.

My Wife and I loved this hotel and area. Would love to return soon.
