“Needs Updating & Repairs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Quality Inns have been reliable "no reservations" hotels for me, and I've stayed at this one several times. They offer a Continental breakfast and reasonable rates. BUT, this one is falling apart and in dire need of repairs and updating. My first room had a broken (did not even turn on) heat/air unit - they didn't even know it and were not able to fix it. So they moved me (this took about half an hour for the "staff" to figure out). The new room was even shabbier than the first, but at least the heater/air conditioning unit worked. The remote for the ancient TV did not, however. After another wait, "maintenance" came and reprogrammed it to work somewhat. The TV was probably from 1990, as was most of the furniture. The fan in the bathroom was unusable because it was so darned loud that it was intolerable & you could not be in the room with all that noise. The tub's lever for the stopper was - I couldn't even believe this - PAINTED in the down position, so you couldn't take a bath, even if you wanted to (believe me, you don't). The sink was PLASTIC! And the fixtures old, pitted, and leaking. There is a Motel 6 next door that has better rooms. This Quality Inn could be restored to its former glory, and should be.

Room Tip: If you must stay here, ask for a room on the east side of the building.

“good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 November 2011

We wanted a cheap place to sleep before going to Legoland. Found a great deal for 2 rooms for 1 night online ($110.54 total for both rooms). Free breakfast of muffins, bagels, cereal, sausage, formed scrambled and eggs and drinks. We ended up needing a jump start for a dead battery in our car and the young man on breakfast duty literally ran to get us help.

“Good quality in this Quality inn...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

We arrived late after a delayed flight from Chicago and we didn't know what to expect with a Quality Inn but this one pleasantly surprised us. The front desk guy was very friendly and humorous even at an odd hour such as our arrival and that helped us forget a little about our flight delays. Beds were comfortable, room was very well cleaned and we enjoyed the breakfast which was above standard for the hotel's category.
There was so much to do in Carlsbad but we got some good local tips from the staff so that made things simpler.
For a budget trip to north coast in San diego, this one's a good beet. Can't go wrong here for the value

Room Tip: Even though the hotel's off the freeway, it doesn't really get noisy. But ofcourse, the west...

“In dire need of renovation”

I try to take price and location into consideration before I decide how to rate an establishment. That said, this Quality Inn was of a rather low quality. Our room was clean, but the carpet had a distinctive early-90s appearance, as did the TV, bedspreads, bathroom fixtures and nearly every other facet of the hotel. The location is good for travelers looking to stay near the freeway, but not good if you decide to walk to dinner. It's not in a pedestrian friendly neighborhood. It felt safe, but it's far from downtown.

There were some pluses, but they generally pertain to parts of the hotel outside of our room. The front desk attendants were friendly and welcoming, which goes a long ways in my opinion. They offered free continental breakfast, too. The pool was decent, if a little cold. Also on the plus side, there were a bunch of mattresses near the dumpsters in the back of the hotel, so that tells me they're in the process of upgrading the beds, at least. Hopefully management puts some money into a complete renovation.

I will not recommend this hotel to my friends and family in the future. It is a decent hotel, but I believe there are nicer hotels in the vicinity at a comparable price.

Room Tip: Our room was on the third floor on the west side of the hotel, which gave us a distant view of the o...
