“Awful, awful place!”

I will NEVER stay there again! The rooms were okay, the hall smelt like smoke, however. The clientele was "iffy". Someone put lots of feces in the pool--need I say more? The last night a herd of elephants stayed in the room right above us. These occupants (were there 20 of them?) made the most noise I have ever heard in a hotel. They were so loud I was almost laughing--almost. After complaining to the front desk--had to get out of bed and race down to the front desk because they were not answering the phone--still nothing happened. I'm guessing that the occupants above us were either moving furniture around or having wrestling contests all night.

DON'T STAY THERE!

  • Liked — 15 minute walk to the beach, close to the freeway
  • Disliked — the clientele, the noise, the poop in the pool

“Stay away from the ESA!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 October 2007

Family of four with two toddlers stayed two nights on a weekend booked through Priceline. Sign in lobby says "Chemicals in this building have been known to cause cancer". Wow. Odors of smoking, burnt popcorn and Chinese food wafted through the halls. Walked into our room to find the bed was unmade. They sent us to another room....right above an occupant who owned a barking dog. Walls and floors above are thin which made for noisy nights.

Staff was helpful and friendly albeit very young (our desk clerk was studying for a midterm and on the phone with another clerk who wanted to switch work days).

This is NOT a 2 star hotel. I will not stay in an ESA again.

“Don't stay here!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 July 2007

Reserved a room several months ago for our family of five. Upon check-in we were given a room with only one queen bed, no pull-out sofa, nothing. We went down to discuss this and were basically told "too bad, the rest of the rooms are booked", etc., etc. They tried to put the blame on us. Now we are a family of five, we would never book a room with only one queen. Unfortunately all other hotels in the area were filled up or we would have moved immediately.

Other people spent time complaining at the front desk as well, broken TV, broken air, etc.. The front desk staff seemed incompetent and not at all helpful.

“don't expect much”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2007

I got this hotel via Priceline, but it was not worth the $55 I "bid."

I was first given a room on the freeway side. They had no problem giving me a new room but sent me to one that was already occupied, then when I told the desk girl, she made motions to fix the problem with their computer/occupancy glitch rather than re-accomodate me. I had to ask her to please take care of me first.

Average room, clean though. No hangers. The shower diverter malfunctioned....I had to use all my strength to lift it, and then it diverted only half of the water to the shower. It wouldn't go down again. The toilet was odd and spitty. Yuck!

It was comfortable enough, but no shampoo or lotion. The kitchenette had one fork, one spoon, one knife.

I'll avoide ESAs in the future.

“Just Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 November 2006

The room was below average. Absolutely no frills here. No radio in the room. TV was a 20" with Showtime. The bed - extremely hard and uncomfortable. The kitchenette had the barest necessities - 2 forks, knives, spoons, bowls and plates. No salt or pepper either. I had to walk over to the Carls Jr across the street and "borrow" some condiments. Overall, this place had a very sterile feel to it. Clean, but no personality and definitely not a place you would want to stay. It is within walking distance to some decent restaurants/bars in the Carlsbad Village area.
