As an HGVC Owner in another location we are happy there is a property in Souther CA. There are things that are good about this hotel and things that are substandard.
First the pros: Rooms are well appointed and very clean. The staff is very attentive and when we called for things they were brought over immediately. The staff is friendly and seem to be working constantly to provide good service. The location is convenient to I5 and Legoland and the Factory Stores. The beach is an easy drive as are the beach towns up and down PCH.
Cons: There are no elevators. Unless you stay on floor two you much climb stairs. (we asked for assistance and they provided a maintenance person to help us) There are no washers and dryers on each unit, but a laundry room in each villa. They are free, but again, you much climb stairs unless you are on floor two.
Parking is not adequate if you are staying in the lower villas - we were in 51, I think. We had to park on curbs if we came in late. The rooms that are sold as ocean view do have a peek of the ocean in the distance. Unfortunately, to see that ocean view you much look over all the back lot at Legoland which means maintenance, trash bins, etc. That's not very attractive. The upper villas look out at a parking lot to golf club.
The pool area is ok, nothing special and certainly now worthy of being called a resort. Check in has limited parking the there is no real lobby area - just a condo that has been converted into a check in area.
All and all, it's an ok place to stay. I certainly would not put in on the same scale as other HGVC resorts. Don't go there expecting a beach resort, or even a resort nearly as well put together as the Grand Pacific which is a stone's thow away.
I think in time things will get better. It is my understanding that future units may have elevators and washer and dryers. I can't imagine building timeshares in the shadow of an amusement park which will obviously cater to families that is set in such an un-family friendly fashion. Other than offering a kitchen, it's not any better (and maybe worse) than staying in a full service hotel.
Room Tip: Depends on what you are looking for. Villa 51 has a peek of the ocean and Legoland, but is a long w...
