The Carlsbad Inn Beach Resort's best feature is it's location. They are right above the beach and have their own walkway down to the beach (with member/guest only tables on the side of the walkway, for a beach view or dinner without the sand!). The beach itself is perfect and a bit off from the public beach. The grounds are the second best part. Carlsbad Inn has a very nice, large courtyard with comfortable loungers, 2 large fire pits with comfortable chairs, and a few tables with chairs and umbrellas. They have a nice pool area with one hot tub, and then a separate hot tub across the grounds for adults only. The pool area allows for an adult with teens or older children to supervise from inside at a sitting room or from the grounds area, as the pool is completely visible from both. If you have kids or teens, there's plenty for them to do as there's an arcade and pool gear, bikes, and a ping pong table.
The rooms are nice and some are condos/suites. We stayed in a kitchenette room, which we love because we like to pack picnics and bring wine. The bed was the best part of the room- very comfortable and no different than the beds we've stayed in at expensive city hotels. There are DVD players in the room, which allows you to bring and watch movies in your room or rent them from the hotel.
Although we would recommend this resort to anyone, I wouldn't recommend our room, 255 in the hotel, or the rooms directly next to it. We definitely enjoyed our stay, but we were right next to the elevator (so right next to it that people didn't notice there was a door there and basically hung out on our door- We're talkin' inches). The doors had gaps on the sides, so the noise privacy was lacking given our elevator location. Also, our room just happened to be located so that the noise from the activities center (where the kids play) came straight to our room...Which meant we woke up a lot earlier than expected since people probably sent their kids out to play when they woke up. So, romantic for the most part, minus these 2 not so great factors of our room's location. Lesson learned: Avoid elevators and locations right above/across from the Activity Center.
The bathroom wasn't very high quality/modern, but the location, grounds, bed, and kitchenette really make up for anything lacking. The adult hot tub and beach and town access were better than anywhere we've stayed in any town, so it made up for the few downfalls. We definitely want to stay there again.
