The hotel has the exact feel of garden apartments (i.e. no interior corridors; individual unit entrances on first or second floor) in a slightly rundown neighborhood. The front desk area was a little hard to find at night (not obvious where it is from the parking lot). The front desk area and breakfast room seemed a little small.

Room is fine except:
- Desk has two outlets near it, one for the lamp and one for the high speed connection. Therefore, I had to unplug the lamp in order to plug in my computer and work at the desk. The nearest other outlet is next to the fireplace. If I plug my computer in there, and try to work from the sofa, the high speed cable doesn't reach far enough...
- Can easily hear footsteps upstairs
- No trash can at desk or in bathroom. Only one is under the sink.

Otherwise, room is fine.

Disappointed upon arrival as AAA book said interior/exterior corridors--but NO interior corridors here, just the typical Residence Inn condo/apartment style outside entrances.

Room was very nice--good quiet heat, fully-stocked full kitchen, 25+ channel TV, comfortable bed, free microwave popcorn in with coffee supplies. Looked like a decent area of town. A lot of choice in free breakfast buffet including scrambled eggs and potatoes. The breakfast room was quite cold though.

Problem #1--at the end of the second morning shower (and not long ones either) there was virtually NO hot water left. Front desk just shrugged their shoulders and said "sorry".

Problem #2--when you sign in, you must sign a "no party" pledge. Well, a room not far from us had 14 people having a party and it took several different rooms to call the front desk to get it stopped. It took the manager over an hour to get everyone out of the room; she was negotiating with them instead of throwing them out after they violated their "no party" agreement. Loud screaming between patrons (not me) and the manager and the party-people. And all this happened between 11 PM and midnight, when people are trying to get to sleep.

Maybe I just caught it on a bad night, but the front desk people on all shifts were ineffective and lackadaisical, but the room itself was quite nice except for the lack of hot water.

This "no party" sheet to sign must be something that happens in Bay Area hotels as this is the second different chain that I've had to sign this "no party" sheet upon arrival within the past several months, so beware. And being over 55 I'm not looked at to be a "party animal", so everyone must sign on arrival.

  • Liked — thr room itself
  • Disliked — front desk ineffectiveness
  • Any tips/secrets for future travellers? — nice place to stay if you can avoid parties and take VERY quick showers

I stayed at this hotel with my husband and 2 kids ages 3 & 6. We stayed in a "penthouse suite" which is basically a kitchen, eating area, bathroom, and living room-type area downstairs. The sofa in the living area is a sofa bed, and in the office/eating area there is a queen sized murphy bed. There is a curtain that seperates the two sleeping areas. Upstairs is a loft area with a queen bed, TV and bathroom.

Each of my kids slept in a bed downstairs, and my husband and I slept upstairs. We were able to peek over the loft "wall" and check on our 3 year old who was sleeping in the sofa bed. After they went to bed we were able to watch T.V. and relax upstairs. While they were falling asleep we had to be pretty quiet, because since it is a loft upstairs and not totally enclosed sound carries downstairs.

They had a complimentary breakfast in the lobby in the morning. It was perfect for us, since were not big breakfast eaters. They had cereal, breads, eggs, oatmeal, juice...basic breakfast stuff. Perfect. We really appreciated not having to get ready and go to IHOP or Dennys or something and pay a lot to have our kids pick at their food. They also had coin-op laundry facilities which were convenient. They did not have a fitness room, but did offer a pass to a Pinnacle Fitness Club a couple miles away.

It goes without saying that having a kitchen (fridge, microwave, sink, oven) was great. There were several grocery stores nearby, including my favorite-Trader Joe's.

We visited family in the area, but there are some attactions in the area we went to...The San Jose Children's Discovery Museum is GREAT. My kids love it. We went to "the Jungle" and indoor play area (it was raining) my kids also loved. We were going to go to Happy Hollow Park and Zoo, which I've been to before and is cute, but like I said, it was raining.

Bottom line is that I think that having that extra space, and the ability not to have to have dinner out when the kids are cranky really made our vacation much more relaxing and enjoyable.
