“Always a pleasure!”

We stay either here whenever we are in Cambria and love this place! The impeccable service, the crisp white sheets on comfy beds and the sound of the surf add up to a better nights sleep than we get at home. This is a family owned business in a world of GAP, Starbucks and Motel 6. it is always a pleasure to return here. The continental breakfast is scrumptious with a good blend of sinful and healthy, there is also an afternoon tea/happy hour snack,,bring your own wine, which is easy to find in this area. We can't wait to get back here every time our schedule allows. So relaxing, its seems like you are so far away when, really it is only a few hours away.

Room Tip: The ocean front rooms are so so awesome and worth the up-grade.

“Great spot!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

The place is older, but it was very clean and the room had been updated. Heat was provided by a gas fireplace, which was plenty in January. Afternoon snack time provided an opportunity to ask the desk clerk questions about local sights and restaurants. Our room had a fridge and microwave. We stayed on the second floor, which provided a partial ocean view. The afternoon/evening desk clerk was much friendlier and more helpful than the lady that was there when we checked in. The one who checked us in didn't offer a second key or info about the availability of wireless Internet. The location is beautiful, and there is a great wooden walkway along the spectacular beach. It's vey close to San Simeon where you can view elephant seals.

Room Tip: Stay on the second floor.

“going downhill”

We have been coming to this place for many years.
Cons:Sorry to see that it has been a steady decline. the beds show their age, the carpet is getting smelly, the tiles in the bathroom are cracked. The breakfast is mediocre at best, the coffee stuck in the eighties.
Pros: the Seachest next door.
The price they are charging is not met by the quality they offer anymore.
We will look for a new place for our frequent stays in cambria.

Room Tip: avoid the ones with the cracked tiles...

We are sorry to learn that your most recent visit with us did not meet your expectations. We take great strides in insuring that our guests stay with us is always a pleasant experience. Each year, like all hotel properties, we make several improvements and upgrades throughout the property in order to maintain the highest level of quality and freshness. We just completed painting the whole exterior of the property and are currently in the process of replacing the carpets based on the wear and tear in each room. Additionally, we are installing new mattresses and upgrading the bedding where necessary. Due to the San Simeon earthquake, we do have several areas of the hotel where some of the tile has cracked.

The continental breakfast we provide has not changed for approximately 3 years. In order to eliminate waste and insure freshness, the minor changes we made at that time were based on guest input and preferences.

For our coffee bar, we currently use the only supplier in the area that delivers, Farmers Brothers. Based on the feedback we receive and our own personal experience, we feel this is a quality product.

We hope that by making these improvements to our property you will again allow us the opportunity to provide you with a quality experience in the future. As always, we value and appreciate your feedback.

Sincerely,
Moonstone Landing

“Great oceanfront place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

We stayed here during a trip to see Hearst Castle, which is only about a 10-15 min drive away. We had a partial view, but it's right across the street from the beach so we were fine to walk the 30 seconds to get our view. They offer a great breakfast (pastries, fruit, oatmeal, OJ, coffee etc.) and an afternoon snack and drinks in their front office area. The suite was clean and comfortable. We were in the suite next to the office and were initially concerned about noise but it wasnt an issue at all. There is a small pool or jacuzzi which was out of order, but its tucked away in the back, out of the sun, so I dont know if it would've been much of a draw anyways. Overall, we thought it offered good value for the cost and will definitely return!

“Perfect stop on the way to Heast Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

This motel sits right across the street from Moonstone Beach. Our room (and I think every room) had at least a partial view of the beach. The closer to the front of the motel and being on the second floor provides a better view (the motel is perpendicular to the beach). Our room was closer to the back but on the upper level, so we still had a view of the beach. Our room was very large (two comfy queen beds), a small round table with chairs where you could sit down, chat and eat. It had a huge, marble tile bathroom and gas fireplace that served as our heater. We also had a small refrigerator, microwave and a coffee maker in the room. This motel is only two stories high and our room (on the second floor) was great. There are no elevators only stairs (but you can get to the second level by entering through the motel lobby if stairs are a problem). Upon arrival at about 4:30 p.m., the motel receptionist was very gracious and invited us to partake of some nice afternoon snacks set out in the lobby area (hummus/other dips, veggies, crackers, cheese, sparkling apple cider, etc.) which was unexpected and a friendly welcome after a long drive from Los Angeles. Downtown Cambria is only a short drive (1-2 miles away) from the motel and has a variety of small shops and restaurant options. We took a nice long walk that evening along the beach looking for the moonstone rocks this beach is famous for (alas we didn't find any - but it was fun looking). The walk and views of the beach were spectacular. The motel also let us borrow two videos that night to watch movies in our room (great distraction for the teen traveling with us). In the morning, the motel served a nice complimentary, continental breakfast with a variety of pastries, bagels, toast, cereals, yogurt, juice, coffee, etc. which was a perfect size before we headed out to Heast Castle. The Castle is only about 5 minutes away. So we were able to get there in plenty of time for the first tour the next morning. I stongly advise making tour reservations if you are headed to Heast Castle. I did it at the last minute from the car on the drive up from LA the day before we visited. I was super glad I did since when we got there (on a Sunday), the place was packed. Had I not done that, we may not have gotten the tour and the time we wanted. As it was, we were only able to do one tour (the Grand Rooms) and had to forego the second floor tour since it was sold out. I would highly recommend this motel and plan to stay here again myself if/when visiting Heast Castle again

Room Tip: If possible, ask for a room on the upper level, closer to the beach -- to improve your view of the b...
