About a month before, we checked out several resorts along Moonstone Beach. What we liked about San Simeon Pines was the location at the end of the road on very spacious grounds. We stayed in the "adult" section. It was easy to walk down the golf course, under the bridge to a small beach, then up the boat ramp to the boardwalk. The park across the road from the resort has picnic tables, benches overlooking the beach, stairs down to another beach and wondrous views. The resort is set back from the road so road noise is lessened. We enjoyed the breakfast of hard-boiled eggs, Eng. muffins, danish, juice, cereals, coffee/tea, etc. The breakfast room is cozy and lovely. We did have a flat screen TV, but noticed (by peeking) that a lot of rooms have the old-style. Our bed was excellent. We chose the "dining package" which includes a $50 coupon to a few restaurants. We enjoyed a dinner at the Moonstone Beach Cafe just down the road. If you go for lunch, we suggest sharing if you order a sandwich - they're huge. San Simeon Pines is not a fancy place, but a totally charming one. It would also be nice on a rainy or cold day reading a good book, sitting in the recliner in front of the fireplace. (Not all rooms have fireplaces.) The staff is very friendly and has lots of knowledge about the surrounding areas.
