“Great place to stay close to the Hearst Castle”

We stayed for one night here, on a mini road trip on PCH, driving from LA to SF. One of closest places you can stay if visiting the Hearst Castle (at least if driving from the South). Our room was nice and spacious, very convenient and nice. Bathroom very nice and must have been renovated recently. The free wifi worked perfectly.

Breakfast was very good - comes in a paper bag which is convenient - there are several benches overseeing the ocean across the street, makes a great setting to enjoy it.

Would recommend to anyone driving on PCH and looking for a nice place to stay close to the Hearst Castle

“A Bit of Paradise in Cambria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

My boyfriend and I decided to take a mini road trip up to Cambria to celebrate New Years Eve. We reviewed our hotel options on TripAdvisor and decided that the Blue Dolphin Inn was the place to stay. Thank you, TripAdvisor Reviewers! We could not have been any happier with the hotel. It was the nicest hotel in Cambria. Let me break it down for you:

-Updated. The hotel has clearly been updated. Most of the hotels on Moonstone Beach Drive look a bit "weathered" (and that's being polite). The Blue Dolphin Inn has a nice upscale decor (think W hotel, but less funky). It feels classy- lots of cool blue hues.

-Amenities. Where to even begin? This hotel seriously felt like a mini home away from home. Dawn (Blonde Dawn) made sure to answer all of our questions. She even told us about a fantastic locals only hike that we ended up doing one morning and LOVED. The reception was always well stocked with tea, coffee and hot chocolate-- all delicious to take on a stroll by the beach. The BEST part was the breakfast that we ordered was delivered to our door each morning. Delicious and packaged, ready to be taken on a picnic down to the beach. It was a very nice touch.

-Location. Great location. You could hear the ocean waves at night from your bedroom.

-Comfort. HUGE, comfortable bed. Bathtub was not big enough for two... but we still tried to make it work.

We loved our stay at The Blue Dolphin Inn. If you are thinking to visit Cambria, you can't go wrong with this property! Make sure to take a sunset walk down at the beach- it's amazing.

Room Tip: The 3 front rooms face the ocean and have a larger patio.

“loved it!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 January 2012

We stayed at the blue dolphin inn in august. We were in the Saldanha Bay room which faces the ocean. The room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed and very comfortable decour. The en-suite was luxurious and spotless. We were on our honeymoon and a little wedding cake was left in the room for us which we thought was a lovely touch! The inn is in a very good location along the beach front. There is a very convenient walk-way along the ocean front opposite the inn where watching the sun-setting is a treat. We had lunch at the moonstone bar and grill which was ok but had dinner at the sea chest which was really good for seafood lovers. All in all we would definately stay in the blue dolphin inn again.

Room Tip: book an ocean view room... its worth it!

“OK, but not great”

The hotels on Moonstone Beach in Cambria seem pretty much the same. You have a few rooms with a beach view that are worth the price. The remainder of the rooms are ok. I have stayed at the Colibri which I prefer to this as their accommodations are newer.

The Blue Dolphin has a good location in the center of the beach area within walking distance of the Sea Chest. The room was clean with nice amenities. The carpet was a little older and the place tends to be a little loud with thin walls.

“Nice hotel; friendly staff; large rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

We had room 109 for two nights. Very quiet with a little ocean view through one window (the woman who checked us in exclaimed "look, you have a great ocean view!").

The room was nicely sized, the bathroom attractive with slate floors and a good shower head.

The only negative: the in-ceiling recessed lighting uses cold-colored compact fluorescents, the type that makes your room look like a hospital room, without warmth. That could be easily remedied if the management replaced the lamps with warm-colored ones that mimic standard light bulbs (like those on the bed stands).

Room Tip: Despite what one other reviewer wrote, the free wireless does work with iPads.
