“Wine Country B&Bs At Their Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

The Craftsman Inn in Calistoga is perfectly situated at the northend of the town with perfect walking access to restaurants, great shopping, bars, and spas. The inn itself has been restored beautifully in the Craftsman tradition and also has a European feel. An old style staircase covered in plush carpet leads to spacious and comfortable bedrooms. There is also an outside seating area with a gazebo where you can enjoy a glass of wine. Delicious breaksfasts are offered in an elegant dining room where during our trip we ate wonderful scones, vegetable frittatas, sausages, truly the best homemade granola, fruits and yogurts, all prepared by propietor and local well-known chef, Gillian Kite, whose newly released cookbook "Inn Foods" we now have after enjoying our lovely breakfasts.

Room Tip: We didn't see all the rooms but all the other guests seemed to love the rooms they stayed in. Ou...

“Especially recommended B&B in Calistoga, CA”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My family booked a pair of adjacent rooms for a celebration. The rooms are rather small, but comfortable and squeaky clean. The rooms have small TVs with DVD player, and a CD player. The common sitting area is welcoming with a current newspaper, games, complimentary sherry, homemade scones and chocolate.

The host couple, Gillian and Nick are from England. Nick remodeled this vintage 1912 house mostly by himself. Gillian runs the kitchen and produced the best B&B breakfasts in my experience. Included were mimosas, homemade granola, yogurt and scones to die for. The hot dish was french toast on one morning and a quiche on the next. Both were moist and flavorful. The Inn is a little more pricey than many, but I felt the higher cost was worth it.

“relaxing b&b”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

stayed at the craftsman inn, and didnt spend much time there, being in around all those wineries, but while there it was very nice, and Gillian was the most exceptional hostess, the breakfasts were out of this world, especially the baked french toast!!!!!!!!!!!to die for......
the rooms were very clean and quiet for being on a main street. and she had just had her cookbook published, and i cant wait to get it

Room Tip: get the diamond room or the palisades room

“It's like staying at a four star restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 November 2011

All B&B's serve breakfasts, but this one serves an utterly distinctive offering each morning. The owner is English, but very astute to the subtleties to making fine food (she also knows her wines and is a fountain of information about Napa restaurants). Each breakfast exceeds your expectations and will rival any breakfast offering at the finest of hotels. Her son is being professionally trained at the Culinary Institute (I believe) and helps out with the B&B offerings – enough said.

The rooms are fine, clean and adequately furnished for a few days stay. The flat screens are dated and should be replaced. The only possible real negative about the place was the trucks on the road out front that start moving grapes earlier in the AM that ideal (harvest season only). That said, the gourmet breakfast makes you forget about missing a few minutes of sleep.

Thanks for the nice review, really glad you enjoyed your stay.

We agree with your comments on the TVs. They were state of the art when we bought them in 2007. Just four years on and technology is at a different level. We were planning to buy new ones over the winter and your comments prompted us to get on and do that now. We will be ordering the new larger screens and mounts this week.

Regards,

Nick and Gillian Kite

“Lovely B&B in the heart of Napa”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We stayed here last June and had a lovely stay. We were arriving from Yosemite so we got in a bit late so Gillian wasn't there. She left a helpful note for us to show ourselves in and no one else was in that night so we happen to have the whole place to ourselves - what a treat. We had read up on her website on suggestions for places to eat and wound up going to Cook - I highly recommend that you go there and we have Gillian's site to thank! The next morning she had a wonderful breakfast laid out for us before we headed out for a day of wine tasting. She provided bottled water - very helpful for a day at the wineries - and cookies and an aperitif in the room every evening which was a nice touch. Definitely enjoyed our stay and hope to return someday!
