I traveled to Calistoga to run the Napa Marathon. Pink Mansion was listed on the marathon website in a select group of B&Bs catering to runners, offering, for example, early breakfast the morning of the race. However, when I arrived I was informed that no such offerings would be available. In addition to having to purchase food at the grocery store to ensure I was properly fueled before the race, the B&B would not allow a late check out so I could shower after the race, only offering use of the shower by their pool. Because there were several runners at the B&B, I had to stand in my soaking wet clothes (it rained for much of the race) after running 26.2 miles waiting for another runner to use the same shower. I do not think providing any of these extras was a lot to ask for the weekend of a major local event, nor would they have greatly inconvenienced the B&B. If I were to return to Calistoga to run the race in the future, I would stay at the Bear Flag in, just down the road where several of my fellow runners stayed, who were provided with a full breakfast the morning of the race, as well as late checkout so they could shower and change. They also paid much less than I did.
While Pink Mansion is certainly a lovely facility, I was disappointed at their insensitivity to the needs of the runners. At the very least they should not have listed themselves on the race website as catering to runners, when no such accommodations were offered. False advertising.
