My wife and I stayed here for two nights (Friday and Saturday) in room no. 2 and really enjoyed it. We are relatively local and familiar with the wine country, so we didn't need a lot of hand holding. The lack of a front desk didn't bother us. In a pinch, Joaquin, who lives on-site, could help out, but this hotel is best suited for those who are independent.
The room was spacious and comfortable. We wouldn't describe it as luxurious - it's not a resort. That said, however, we loved the towels and linens, and the soaps and shower products were all from the Napa Soap Company. Daily maid service was flawless, and the continental breakfast was adequate - fresh baked croissant, scone, bagel, a couple pieces of fruit, and some juice and coffee.
Probably our favorite part was the central location. This place is right in the middle of the most popular restaurants in Calistoga - all within one block. Anywhere you are headed in downtown Calistoga is just oustide the door. No need to fire up the car just to shop or dine.
We would defintely stay here again. If you want a nice, comfortable place that feels like your own apartment smack in the middle of Calistoga, from which to explore the upper portion of the Napa Valley, this is your kind of place. If you are new to the Napa Valley, and need some direction and hand-holding, then you should look elsewhere.
Restaurant recommendations: Drinks at the Martini House in St. Helena were top notch; dessert at JoLe in Calistoga (across the street) was fabulous; dinner at Cook St. Helena was very, very good.
