“A Clean Well-Lit Room but Bring Your Ear Plugs!”

Famed writer Maya Angelou appeared on one of Oprah's final shows. Angelo said, "When someone tells you something about themselves, you should believe them! She was right, especially when it comes to B&B's. In the past, we've dined at the Calistoga Inn which is very nice. We thought the Inn which is located above the restaurant would follow suit. The manager had written that there is live music in the bar Thursdays-Sunday and to bring ear plugs. She was not kidding! An inn in wine country should be relaxing. After a day of wine tasting and mud bathing who wants to be in a room that feels like it is being jolted off its foundations every few moments? We were warned. Our weekend was a particularly bad one since it turned out to be Cinco de Mayo. Across the street there is a Mexican restaurant that was celebrating with mariachi music. Also, forgot to tell you, that is was unseasonable warm the beginning of May. There is no air-conditioning in the room. The manager did supply fans but we had to open the window. Between the hip-hop below and the mariachi across the street even my husband who is known to sleep during rock concerts had a night tossing and turning until the music stopped in the wee hours of the morning. The room was a simple, clean room in a good location. The fact that there were only two bathrooms for eighteen rooms (one for men and one for women) did not present a problem. The breakfast was more than adequate. When we went down to breakfast, most of us felt as if we had been shell shocked. Even the young couple staying next to us told us that they would not be staying the next night as planned. The price is right here but I would never stay here again when the music is playing or during the summer/both! Monday through Wednesday it would be okay. But, again, we were warned!

Room Tip: Choose a room over the restaurant as opposed to the bar if you are here Thursday through Sunday. Br...

“Never again”

We have been staying at the Calistoga Inn for nearly 15 years and had not been there for three years. We were excited to go back and had no idea about the DJ and live music situation. The staff never mentioned it on the phone and boy were we in for a change. We had invited another couple to meet us there figuring it would be a quaint and quirky place just like always. What a disaster. The music was so loud there was no place to hide. We demanded a refund for the coming night that we had paid for and headed for the Comfort Inn up the street which was extremely quiet. The Inn is no longer in good shape and is evident by duct tape holding toilet tanks together and the insides of the rooms look as though no one has kept them in good repair. Too bad, this used to be a neat place. Now after all these years of being a patron we will never go back.

“Special experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2011

We are a couple in the 50 ies. We like to travel within the USA and Calistoga is surely a place to see. It is true that the hotel description on the net is correct. The showers are "shared" but clean and acceptable. I think they could improve a bit the sink that is in the room. A bit too small (it is a hand wash sink". Be carefull to ask a room at the rear / back of the building because there is heavy trafic and it is difficult to sleep after 5 AM!.
If you want to swim, there is a nice swimming pool not far from the hotel (municipality). So we can say that we liked it,

Friendly Staff and very CLEAN Inn. I read the reviews about the nightlife below my room and I will write that they have a GREAT sound system. ;-) The continental breakfast satisfied my pre-wine tasing exercise by supplying enough nutrition. The rooms were well equipped for my stay and the sink was the added touch. Many compliments to the cuisine and decor in the dining room. I look forward to staying with you again.

Room Tip: Book early to avoid the 2 rooms with the EXCELLENT sound system from the nightlife below ;-) exce...

“Yes it has shared bathrooms and is noisy, but they warn you and it is good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

We booked one night at the last minute and very much enjoyed our stay. We were warned up front that the bar was open until 2.30 and that the bathrooms were shared. Overall the rooms and bathrooms were clean and the beds comfortable and the help-yourself continental breakfast perfecty satisfactory. The bar was noisy until around 1.30 but we were fine with it as we had been informed. Overall we felt it was good value, but not suitable for anyone looking for a quiet night.

Room Tip: Choose a room that isn't above the bar.
