“obnoxious service, flim-flam bait-and-switch website, extra charges after leaving”
by definition, one of the hotel stays in your lifetime has to be considered the WORST.
this was it.
we showed up late on a saturday for my grieving sister whose 16 year old daughter had passed away; we didn't want to impose and so we booked a room at this hotel.
what a mistake.
we had partly booked this hotel because i knew my parents would be staying in the room with us part of the time, and so i had evaluated the picture that said "guest rooms" on the front page of the hotel website. it turns out that the picture is not of a guest room, but clearly a zoomed-in part of another picture labelled "cozy lobby". one doesn't recognize this until visiting the hotel, seeing the rooms, and comparing. complete bait-and-switch.
upon arrival we were given a room by the 101 freeway. even at 11 at night, the noise was loud and constant. we asked politely if we could possibly be placed in another room. after much eye-rolling and complaining by the front desk staff about having to "do a bunch of paperwork" and "go through corporate", we were given keys to a new room.
upon entering the new room, it was clear that it wasn't completely furnished. i picked the hotel because i knew i'd have to be spending some amount of time working there, but the swivel work chair that was in the first room (and which we were told should have been standard) was not there, and instead there was a small, hard-backed chair with little cushion which looked like it had come from the dining room. the room by the freeway also had a comfortable easy chair; this room did not have one. i asked the next morning about the chairs, and told her we'd like both taken care of. that evening, nothing had happened, so we asked again. some maintenance personnel showed up with 2 more chairs from the dining area.
i wrote an email to the online address complaining about this, and about our request for extra pillows (which was met very rudely and with more eye rolling). i ended up using a towel from the bathroom to try and shore up the very uncomfortable and slight pillows that were provided.
my email was answered at 11:36pm, with the request that we allow the assistant general manager into our room to gather facts before 6:30am. we were sleeping when this email arrived, and didn't see it until after we got up at 7:30am. i responded to the ridiculous nature of this email, and did not receive a response until after we left.
we also had to have the refrigerator in our room replaced. it was not working.
eventually, an easy chair was delivered on the third day. no work chair was ever delivered.
there were never more than 3 towels in the room at any one time, despite the four of us staying in the room most of the time.
when i worked until 1pm in the room one day, and then asked that the room be serviced late, i was met with more rude behavior by the front desk staff.
3 days after departure, we were charged for an additional night at the hotel, which i'm still trying to get refunded.
the beds were small.
people walking down the hall caused the room to shake. there was almost no fresh fruit at the "free breakfast", and the only meat offering was a greasy sausage patty.
the "workout facility" consisted of a single treadmill and a couple of other pieces of equipment.
the pool was small, the jacuzzi didn't look particularly clean.
the vending facilities were expensive.
i would never stay at this place again, not even on a dare.
Room Tip: to get the best room at this hotel, book with another hotel chain and stay away
