Many reviews tell more about the reviewer than the reviewed. Might be true of me, too. I'm not hard to please, look for satisfactory lodging at affordable price, very reasonable. Free airport shuttle. But the big attraction of this motel is actually a block away, a real treasure, Porto's Cafe & Bakery. More than an eatery, it is an event. High ceiling, chandeliers, owned by same family since 1950s, clean, long lines that are whipped through by a friendly, professional staff, inexpensive, spacious, espresso & drink bar, throngs of happy-looking customers, a microcosm of Los Angeles life. The once-deprecated L.A. public transit is now a fabulous system of rail & bus lines, who needs a car?!! OK, I'm nice to the motel staff, and they return in kind, friendly, helpful about getting aound the area, etc. Met desk lady, off-duty on the street, she asked sincerely about how we were getting on, chatted like old friend. Minor drawback: old, noisy air cond.
