“Recommend everything but the price...”

This is a clean, friendly place...but definitely not a four star resort as the room rates might indicate. Comfortable rooms with microwaves, coffee, fridge, robes and extra pillows. Pool, hot tub and mini spa for massages. Food at the Arches restaurant just OK; geared to the early bird special crowd, as is the bar. Golf rates are pretty good though, with decent, separate 9 hole courses. One thing for certain...it sure is quiet.

“Pleasant, well maintained and enjoyable”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

Stayed three nights in January. Very clean, good staff, excellent bar and restaurant.
Not sure of prices, depends on your point of view and what deal you could get. We had a good deal with a group booking of 4 different rooms - mixed types. All rooms were lovely and with a balcony.

I agree with WizardBristol - no cutlery or even a corkscrew in the kitchenette provided a bit of a challenge (Bring one's own?) as they charge corkage in the bar.

Pools are lovely and amazing to be in a pool in the sun in January! I'd pick Borrego over most other winter sun destinations. It is so very different from the usual sort of sun place.

Room Tip: If you like to sleep with the widow open be careful you aren't near/overlooking the ice machine...

“Very enjoyable; Clean & Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Stayed three nights with a TripAdvisor coupon good in Jan 2012. For the coupon price it was an absolute 5 star bargain; at rack rates the resort would probably rate a 4. Golf course, 27 holes, is impressive. Pool(s) are extremely clean and well maintained, although showing their age -- the complex dates from the 60s or perhaps the 70s I'm fairly certain. The entire town is a throw-back to the glory days of the 50s and 60s -- a wonderful surprise was the farmer's market in Christmas Circle, perhaps 2, maybe 2.5 miles from this resort. Room was as clean as could have been desired and large, balcony had an enjoyable bistro patio set, bed must have been a Calif. King. Biggest negative: while there is No Smoking inside it was allowed outside -- and smoke from a patio below us drove us inside one afternoon (they checked out the next morning).

Room Tip: North facing rooms, upstairs, catch both sunrise and sunset on the mountains -- and some have views...

“Great place in the desert”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

Wonderful location with lovely views from almost every area of the resort. The suite was a good size with a balcony and was spotlessly clean; however, there was no cutlery in the kitchenette.
We had a problem with noisy neighbours and the manager had no hesitation in moving us to another suite.
Good bar and restaurant.
A good place to spot wildlife - saw a hawk chasing a hare on an early morning walk around the resort grounds.

“Not bad.”

We got off to a rough start when we thought our room key didn't work. We went back to the front desk and negotiated for a better room, that was not on the ground floor and that wasn't looking directly at the pool. It's a good thing this happened since we saw someone else already in our room through the open balcony door, as we walked back to our car. Our new room was still facing the pool but at least not directly looking at it and we were on the second floor. We had to wait for the new room to be ready so we drove in to town and grabbed a bite to eat. When we returned to get our new room, I tried to tell the lady at the front desk about the error (room already occupied) however she didn't understand and I didn't feel like bothering to explain.

That said, the room was good sized and more like a 1 bedroom apartment minus a full kitchen. The bed was huge and comfortable and the bedroom and living room were both roomy. Plus they each had a big flat screen TV in each one! The balcony is huge even if the outside furniture is on the small side. There were lots of birds in the trees around the hotel. The kitchen area was adequate but lacked any silverware or even paper towels. The cabinets and drawers are all empty. Luckily we brought the few silverware items we needed with us.

I agree with previous reviews about the annoyance of the lights being on timers. You can turn them off with a button, but there is no way to keep them on if you are laying in bed reading without looking like you are doing very slow exercises. Also it's not very helpful when you plug in your ipod to charge, not realizing the outlet is on the timer as well. Also the wifi is so slow that streaming any video is out of the question unless you like to watch your movies 30 seconds at a time with about a 30 second break in between plays.

We purchased a package that included a boxed lunch for each of us and I was pleasantly surprised at the food in my lunch. My wife got a veggie meal and she said the sandwich could have been better. It did include a decent amount of food, including a bag of chips (Frito's, Doritos), an orange, cookies and a bottle of water. So the other stuff probably made up for it.

Mostly a quiet hotel except for the Senior's water arobics class in the morning, which consisted of 18 or so elderly ladies and one enterprising elderly man.

Generally a good experience and I would stay there again.
