“Great location with friendly staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2011 via mobile

Stayed there three nights at one of the lake view rooms. What a wonderful view to wake up to before going to snow summit (near the lodge!). We called the staff to let us check in at 1AM (during a heavy snow storm). They still greeted us with a smile. The front desk helped us the next day by calling snow summit for ski lessons info and gave us coupons for ski rentals at a near rental shop. We are planning to go back next week.

My husband and i got the kitchen room upstairs, the kitchen was tiny but we did not complain, it worked well for us, the fireplace was already on when we arrived, was nice and cozy warm. We stayed two nights, the only thing i would have to say is there is no clean service, no maids! They cleaned rooms around us for the next guests coming in but never bothered to come to our room or at the least ask us if we needed anything...I thought it was crazy of them to leave a pretty note stating not to forget to thank the housekeepers when i never even got any service! Ofcourse i did not leave a tip since they did not even bother. Other than that, we had a wonderful time and we will consider going back....I just hope they will start cleaning the rooms or atleast asking if anything is needed

Hello. Dear guest. Thank you for your nice review. We are sorry about the housekeeping of your room. We just hired two new housekeepers and we will remind them to ask every guest for service. Many times they are hesitant to enter a room when it is occupied and we will remind them to simply knock on the door and ask if the guest is needing towels or their room refreshed. Again, thank you for your response and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Management.

“Unaccurate Discription of Hotel through websites”

My husband and I decided to take an over night trip to Big Bear this past weekend. We looked all over for a decently priced lodge/hotel/cabin on the internet. I came across this Lodge through Big Bears website as well as expedia and it sounded great. Expedia’s website said that it had a fireplace and balcony, that it was right on the lake and was just recently renovated. The pictures made it look like a fairly big resort right on the lake. When we arrived it was a small run down motel. I was thoroughly disapointed but I thought we should give it a shot anyways. We received the key and walked in to a small hallway that was dark and very cold. When I went into our room the first thing I noticed was the LACK of a fireplace and the fact that we were not on the lake side, we had a view of dirt and bushes. Not only was the room NOT what we had expected but it was a handy cap room, all of the light switches were very low and the bath tub had about 6 hand rails. as I was looking around the room I finally noticed the "fireplace" which was an electric heater that looked like a mini fireplace. Cute, but they should explain in their website that this is not an actual fireplace, it is a HEATER. The place was fairly empty so I asked the front desk attendent (very nice girl) if we could get another room, she said that they had rooms available but it would be $40 for a room with a view of the lake. It just didnt seem worth it so we decided to stick with our original room. The walls are VERY thin and we were kept up until 4 in the morning by a group of teenagers drinking and being very loud.. Another thing that irked me was that they had an envelope on the bedside table with a note that said " Dont forget to thank your housekeeper" writen on it. I work in the hotel industry and to me this is just very rude to ask for tips like that. Maybe because I work for an upscale hotel I expect more than the average traveler but to me this place should either make changes or change the description online so people dont get the wrong idea about the place. I would not reccomend this MOTEL

“Beauty turns into nightmare”

We arrived on a Friday night looking forward to our lakeview room #19. First of all when we checked in, we inspected the room and found human hair in the bathroom sink and all over the bathroom floor. The coffee pot still had coffee grounds from the last guest. We informed the manager and showed him. He came to the room and inspected it, and attempted to clean up the hair with a wet piece of toilet paper and apologized. After that, we poured a glass of wine and started to watch the sunset on the lake and thought this was beautiful anyways. We enjoyed our room for about an hour. THEN, we heard what sounded like a pack of elephants coming in down the hall and people yelling. Come to find out, a band of about 20 youth were living there for 2 weeks doing odd jobs in the town. It turned into 'animal house, frat house'. With our first attempt at 9:30pm to keep it down and go hang out somewhere else besides the halls, it made NO difference. We then called the manager and he came to tell them to quiet down and go to their rooms. By about 11:30pm we and others called the sherriffs department. They came and found them smoking pot, drinking and they were running and scampering to their rooms to hide things. After the sherriff's department left, things were quiet for about 30 minutes and they started up again.
The next day we told the management we wanted a refund on that night and asked to kick them out. They ganged up verbally on my husband because we had the 'guts' to confront them and not just write a bad review, which most people do instead of confront at the time. My husband had to threaten them to keep them from harrassing us and bothering our vehicle. Come to find out the management knew them and partied with them. They of course moved us from our room (which we wanted because of the view of the lake), into a cabin with no view, that was dark and smelt like dog urine. It was not clean. Like the other reviews, actually the rooms are filthy.
Long story short, the 2nd night, there were a couple of youths yelling, 'come on wake up mister'....and persisted. I didn't sleep well, as I was fearful of their next move.....
Sunday morning was a mass exodus with a refund. Management showed no concern for us because they are friends with this group. We hope our review will seriously prevent you from booking a room with that 'temptation' of the lakeview and getting a nightmare in return.......

Dear guest. We tried calling you after you left but you hung up on our staff. We have asked you to take down your post as your responses were inaccurate. You were mad when we only gave you a one night refund due to a noise disturbance from a small group that was staying. You loved the cabin we moved you to and it was very clean and spacious. When you didn't get a second night refund you wrote this review. The manager does not drink alocohol or party with our guests as you imply. The staff is friendly to all guests and all guests are treated equally whether they are young or old. When they were noisy that night you did threathen our staff with your gun telling us to keep them quiet and we did call the police on you. The other guests were not smoking anything as you claim as they complained to the police about your angry outburst to their noise. We do agree that guests need to be quiet after 10 p.m. and we do apologize to you and gave you a free night due to this. Please do not return to our hotel. We do not want gun carrying guests to threaten employees or others. This is not okay in Big Bear.
