1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2010

this "cabin" was the worse place my family has ever stayed at... 1st off the lady i spoke 2 said it was a cabin we arrive and it looks like a motel... bates motel .. 2nd we didn't have hot water for 24 hrs we had 2 bathe our children in freezing cold water...3rd when we tried 2 park our boat on the dock we couldnt. “Excellent value - I highly recommend it”

It's a shame that The Edgewater has such a poor review average based on two bad experiences, because it almost made me go with another accommodation. This place was almost perfect in every way for my party's needs and I very highly recommend it.

The negatives first - Yes, there was some pet dander on the sheets, but for a pet-friendly accommodation, this was expected. The grounds also had some dead leaves and other debris that hadn't been cleaned in some time, but honestly, if you're that picky for immaculate grounds, you shouldn't vacation in the forest. And the staff weren't overly hospitable, but they weren't rude either. Finally, it does suck to have to clean up after yourself when you're on vacation, but if doing the dishes keeps the rates low, suck it up.

The positives - Gorgeous views, waterfront location, walking distance to everything, fully furnished units that feel like home, excellent rates, tasteful decor, granite counter tops in the kitchenette and bathroom, spacious open floor plan, etc. This place is AWESOME. Bring some wine (and your own wine glasses and corkscrew, they don't have those) and sit out on the balcony and enjoy the sunset. Bring a bag of charcoal and bbq whatever your carnivorous palate craves (there's a small Weber in each unit). You really don't need to ever leave your unit, and you can have a relaxing mountain/lake getaway if that's what you want.

I recommend getting an upper unit (#5-8) for an unobstructed fantastic view of the lake. These rooms are pretty much designed for 2 (queen bed and a loveseat) so I would suggest getting separate rooms if there are more than that in your party, but it IS possible to cram more if necessary. The Edgewater is still a very affordable alternative to renting a cabin, even if you need to reserve multiple rooms.

And one final note: there was an unexpected booking fee per room, so add $30 to the total price of whatever rate you happen to find. The fee is not per night, but per room.

“Worst place in Big Bear - Owner is a scam artist”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 March 2010

We had a terrible experience with the owner/operator of the hotel. We had trouble with our reservation and the owner said they would refund all of our money for the hotel and lift ticket package that we purchased through her hotel. We had to stay elsewhere the weekend we were in BIg Bear and when we called the booking company the next week to get our refund, the owner completely lied to them and told them we stayed at her hotel 2 nights and took the lift tickets. She then, screened our 100 phone calls and when we finally got through to her by being connected through the booking agency, she pretended to be someone else on the phone until we started hounding her on details and then she admitted it was her. She is a TOTAL scam artist and is completely untrustworthy. We are still fighting to get our refund 2 months later! DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF!

“Nice and on the Lake!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2009

We have stayed at the Edgewater many times and it has always served us well. Clean, large rooms or mini-suites really on the lake. In fact it is right next door to the Big Bear Marina so you can walk over to rent a boat and enjoy the lake. It is not far from The Village so you can easily go eat out if you like. The check in staff have always been very friendly and completely helpful.

They’ve been improving the property over time. They have a little dock and a little shore park area with benches and things to relax. Very nice really.

These are not cabins, but a hotel really, two stories with a cabin look but plenty good for a stay in Big Bear. Being next to the Marina, there can be a little noise sometimes, but it is all worth it for the convenience of being so near everything. And, because it is not really next to other hotels, more on a residential street, there is no traffic or random folks wandering about so it is actually safe and mostly quite.

Highly recommended.

“Very Charming and feels alot like home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2009

I had been looking for a pet friendly room and was not getting any calls back from other resorts. The Edgewater called me back and had a pet friendly room. It was really nice and had easy access to the waters edge. There is a nice park like swatch to walk the dog and it has a few nice benches to sit and watch the lake. It is right next door to the Big Bear Marina. They also have a full kitchenette with everything you need. Nice granite counter tops in the kitchen and bath. The beds wern't too bad and the decor is very mountain like and cheerful. It was very homey and I would not mind spending a few days in this room.
