I stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. If you're a lover of a mid century design aesthetic, then this is the place to stay. The hotel itself is located in a nice quiet area and is only a short taxi to some of the hot spots like west hollywood which was a $16 cab ride away.
My parents were staying in the hotel for 4 nights and so i came to stay for one as i was in town for business. On my arrival, the valet was a brilliant first impression. He knew my parents by name and was expecting my arrival. He was very excited to see me, made me feel very welcome, took care of my luggage and gave an exceptional first impression. Check in was very quick and easy and the staff friendly to deal with.
I was very excited about my stay in the hotel as i really love this kind of bygone era style. I love that it has been kept to its original style with original features kept in immaculate condition. I would suggest that if you are expecting a flashy brand new hotel, that this may not be for you. It is more mid century cool. My room did not disappoint. It was spotless and of a nice size. The bathroom was IMMACULATE......not a hint of mould or a smudged tile/mirror to be seen! The cleaning staff do a good and thorough job here. My only fault, a leaky iron and a poor quality ironing board.
We had drinks in the bar and also dinner in the restaurant. I found it a lovely experience. The staff were very attentive and were very accommodating with our desire to move out to one of the cabanas for drinks from inside, and then back into the dinning area for food. My parents had dined at the hotel restaurant before and spoke very highly of it. I found the food to be very nice. In regards to the cost, the 3 of us had several drinks each (including beer and spirits), and 3 courses for dinner and the bill came to approx $220.......so for approx $70 each we had more than enough drink and 3 courses, so i felt this was quite good value and was what i would expect to pay for a nice dinning experience in a nice restaurant in a nice area. Our waiter, Matthew, had very good knowledge of the menu and was a delight to deal with and remembered everyones name. The food is Italian inspired and was very nice. The ambiance also was lovely.
Check out was also a very quick and easy experience and the staff took care of my luggage while i went down the road to Urth cafe for some brunch. They were also happy to print out directions for me when i left as my car was lacking a GPS!
Overall the hotel is relaxed and has a mid century cool quality to it, that seems to be popular as a drinks/dining venue for the locals. The room was reasonably priced and good value for the area. I will be back!
Room Tip: a room in the main building with view away from the pool to avoid noise.
