We love the Garden Cottage. We have stayed here 3 times, each time for 3-5 days. It is an oasis of calm in the midst of an active, urban setting. The cottage is well behind the main house surrounded by beautiful gardens and sculptures created by Mort, one of the owners. Mort and his wife Yuko are delightful people who care very much about providing a home away from home. Yuko is quite the cook, and we were the lucky recipients of her homemade breads as a welcoming treat. Mort and Yuko are a good source of information about Berkeley and the surrounding area.
The cottage is extremely clean, and comfortable, decorated in a Japanese style. There is a gas fireplace which heats it well on cooler days, and a refrigerator, as well as a table and chairs to dine indoors, and another set on the patio in the garden. It is very quiet for sleeping; we live in the country and don't have problems with adjusting here at night.
Mort's studio is next to the cottage, and he is happy to give tours. Each time we have stayed, we have seen new pieces, and even bought several for our home.
We consider the Garden Cottage a hidden gem and look forward to returning whenever we are in Berkeley.

We loved the garden cottage at this B&B. Wonderful space, great bed, clean. Hosts were attentive but not intrusive. Homemade banana bread on arrival. They do not provide breakfast but do provide enough for you to make your own coffee or tea. It was just what we wanted. The garden area is lovely and nice to sit outside and enjoy the beauty. Location is great- a short walk to many restaurants and coffee sites. A thoroughly enjoyable stay. They should, however, update their welcome folder since many of the suggested places and menus are from several years ago. But minor stuff. We will go back!

A few short blocks to North Berkeley's Gourmet Ghetto, we found a sanctuary in the Los Flores room at the Garden Cottages. Our hosts were gracious, friendly and helpful with local insights. Between the art throughout the rooms and outdoor gardens, one feels the Berkeley experience. When the day's events were done, returning to the quiet of the neighborhood was a calming way to retire. And when beginning the next day's activities, great coffee was ready for us!

I stayed for 3 nights and couldn't have been more pleased. The bed was incredibly comfortable and the cottage had everything I needed for a relaxing get away. Mort's sculpture garden and the artistic touches throughout made for a unique experience. I will definitely go back.
