“Clean value place to stay.”

This is not the Extended Stay Deluxe - Bakersfield.
This is the Extended Stay America - Bakersfield; or sometimes listed as ( ESA - Bakersfield ).
Hope this helps clear up the confusion.

This is our second stay at this hotel. We requested a room facing away from the Highway, and away from the Railyard.
This request was granted, and we received a nice quiet clean room, with everything in working order ( we inspected everything ).
Check in was very fast, and the staff was very friendly.
This hotel is in a good safe part of town, and close to stores and resturants.

  • Liked — Location in town.
  • Disliked — The highway and railyard; if I received a room next to them.

“Economy hotel and location”

Stayed at this hotel on a Priceline bid of $45 and was overpriced. If you sign up with Extended Stay email newsletters, you will receive an immediate $10 off your stay coupon which works outs to be cheaper than Priceline after taxes/fees for a 1 night stay.

From the reviews, upon check-in, we requested for a room that was not facing the freeway. It is apparent that freeway noise would be loud. We received a room that faced the elevator on the 2nd floor which is not the best but better than the constant Hwy 99.

It was about 9pm when we checked in but there were people still playing at the miniature golf?!? Strangest as can be.

The room was pleasantly decent with kitchenette, refrigerator, microwave, coffeemaker, and toaster. There were plates and utensils for 2. There were about 7 or 8 tubular plastic hangers for use. The downside was that there was a urine odor in the bathroom. It was very noticeable after we took a shower. It must have been in the shower curtains or something. There was a blood stain spot on the recliner. There was a hole in the bedsheets from a cigarette burn. The linens and towels are in need of replacement. The bed sheets were so worn and thin that they were like tissue paper. I read the review about changing the sheets policy so out of curiosity, I looked closely at the bed before I got in and there was hair underneath the pillow.

Directions: From Hwy 99 Northbound, exit California Street and cross over the intersection and it dead ends into the motel. It's tucked back away from the main street and can be difficult to locate.

“Basic accomodations for a basic price....”

I've stayed here 5 or 6 times over the past 3 years. For me, Bakersfield is a halfway point between S. Calif and Las Vegas, so we stay there a lot on a just-passing-through basis. Whenever Hotwire lacks decent deals, this is our backup plan. It's your basic "road warrior" place. No Hilton for sure, but rooms offer a full kitchen, a reasonably comfortable bed (neither the best or worst I've experienced) and recliner, cable t.v. and a bit of work room for not much money. The only thing lacking is a high speed internet connection--which has become the norm in Bakersfield. Its no luxury hotel, but for the money you can't expect it to be!

I think the reviewer from Fresno was confused by the "policy" of changing linens once a week. That applies only to weekly tenancy; a common practice in motels catering to business travelers who stay for several days. It does NOT apply to travelers paying the daily rate. OF COURSE, linens are changed when new guests occupy the room! Cutting back on linen changes and/or requesting that guests re-use bath towels IF they're comfortable doing so is standard practice in areas with strict water conservation practices. After all, most folks use bath towels more than once at home, and few change their own bed linens daily!
I've found the staff cooperative in providing more towels upon request, but there are usually two full sets for two occupants in the room upon check-in anyway, as opposed to the single set found in most other places. .

It's true that the place can be noisy if your room is on the freeway (west) or the railway (north) side. Staff has always complied with my requests for a room on the south side (overlooking the main parking lot). There's a place for such requests on the corporate reservation page. On my first stay, when I was unaware of the problems presented by the freeway and railyard, the staff was pleasant about moving us to a room on the quieter side.

While it's true that there's no desk service at night, there IS an employee present in the office who will respond to a buzzer outside the office if needed. Also, the corporate customer relations number can reach someone if a situation must be resolved at night. I've found no more problems with loud neighbors here than in other motels.

Overall, this roadside economy motel is a good choice if one wants the convenience of a kitchen at a bargain price.

“Great Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 May 2004

I recently moved to the Bakersfield area and stayed in the Extended Stay while waiting for an apartment to become available. The staff were wonderful and the rooms very servicable. Great little kitchen to do your own cooking and close to amenities such as shopping and putt putt golf right across the road.Asking for a room away from Highway 99 is the way to go.No noise pollution on the other side at all.Great for the long stay or the short stay at a great price.

“Noise hell”

I stayed here in February 2004 . I requested a quiet room away from the freeway - major miscalculation . I was given a room on the railyard side, not railroad side but railyard. I withstood about 5 minutes of the grinding , screeching from this metal foundry. Again should have known - the person checking in before me was moving out for the same reason. This 3 sided hotel lets you pick your preferred means of audio assault -1) freeway on ramp at room level 2) railyard noise or 3) amusement park carnival noises. Doesn't the City of Bakersfield have any zoning laws??
