I've stayed here 5 or 6 times over the past 3 years. For me, Bakersfield is a halfway point between S. Calif and Las Vegas, so we stay there a lot on a just-passing-through basis. Whenever Hotwire lacks decent deals, this is our backup plan. It's your basic "road warrior" place. No Hilton for sure, but rooms offer a full kitchen, a reasonably comfortable bed (neither the best or worst I've experienced) and recliner, cable t.v. and a bit of work room for not much money. The only thing lacking is a high speed internet connection--which has become the norm in Bakersfield. Its no luxury hotel, but for the money you can't expect it to be!
I think the reviewer from Fresno was confused by the "policy" of changing linens once a week. That applies only to weekly tenancy; a common practice in motels catering to business travelers who stay for several days. It does NOT apply to travelers paying the daily rate. OF COURSE, linens are changed when new guests occupy the room! Cutting back on linen changes and/or requesting that guests re-use bath towels IF they're comfortable doing so is standard practice in areas with strict water conservation practices. After all, most folks use bath towels more than once at home, and few change their own bed linens daily!
I've found the staff cooperative in providing more towels upon request, but there are usually two full sets for two occupants in the room upon check-in anyway, as opposed to the single set found in most other places. .
It's true that the place can be noisy if your room is on the freeway (west) or the railway (north) side. Staff has always complied with my requests for a room on the south side (overlooking the main parking lot). There's a place for such requests on the corporate reservation page. On my first stay, when I was unaware of the problems presented by the freeway and railyard, the staff was pleasant about moving us to a room on the quieter side.
While it's true that there's no desk service at night, there IS an employee present in the office who will respond to a buzzer outside the office if needed. Also, the corporate customer relations number can reach someone if a situation must be resolved at night. I've found no more problems with loud neighbors here than in other motels.
Overall, this roadside economy motel is a good choice if one wants the convenience of a kitchen at a bargain price.
