We stayed in this motel while travelling from Yosemite to Las Vegas. It is a basic motel - good for one night stay. Room was of a standard motel-style, decorated with some nice posters. It was clean, the shower was hot. There is Walmart and some eateries just a few hundred meters away.
Breakfast was a rather poor - a kind of typical motel style - sweets, cereals and waffles.

We stopped off for one night on our way up from Palm Springs to Monterey via the Mojave. After the wonders of the Vagabond in Palm Springs, it was a no-brainer to check in at the Vagabond here. Well..... it was different :-)

It's a truck stop between an Interstate and a 4-lane highway (a lorry driver's motel between two motorways, if you prefer). That said :
- the room was impeccably clean and comfortable, although spartan (no coffee machine, no alarm clock)
- the truck drivers were impeccably polite and quiet (they need their sleep).
- the trucks themselves should be considered a tourist attraction. How can they keep those rigs, however old, so beautiful and shining clean ?
- you get to have dinner and breakfast in Denny's, and that is surely part of the Great American Experience.

OK so ther is some highway noise, but that is a constant, so you soon forget it.

And all that for 45$ per night !!!!!!!! (mid-November rates).

If only I'd known that Bakersfield is the Country capital of California, we could have enjoyed an evening downtown, and the whole experience would have been grandiose.

This hotel is next to US 99 in Bakersfield South. We chose this hotel as we're traveling from Sacramento to Las Vegas & we needed a hotel which is near US 99 so that we can take a rest at night & resume our journey again early morning towards Las Vegas. The best thing is, the breakfast starts at 2 AM so you can just have a breakfast early morning & straight head towards your destination. The hotel as such is not a great place to stay if you're looking for luxury, leisure & cleanliness.

I know this is a low budget hotel but I still expect cleanliness. Entering the room, I tossed off my shoes. After walking a few feet, I noticed my feet were sticky and black on the soles. I put my shoes back on and went down to the front desk to get towels to place on the floors to walk on. After this, I went to take a shower only to notice that no bath towels were left in our room. Once I got more towels and went to take a shower, I was disgusted with the bathroom floor (dirt and hairs...one pubic).

Other problems:
non smoking room but there were cigarette burns in the bedding and curtains.
blood stains on the curtains
one of the cups was opened and used
no fitted sheet, a flat sheet instead that was too small to be tucked in all the way
the pool was gross! I swim in lakes and the ocean, never would I let my kids in that mess. Not kept/cleaned at all.

minor complaints:
coffee maker had no decaf
large tar in the outer blanket of the bed
no pen/paper

I know some of these are cosmetic but it was advertised as newly remodeled and we paid extra for the upgrade room.

If you want a place to party and pass out or are a trucker and just need a bed, this is fine but if you want a clean room (especially if you have kids who might be on the floor), pay extra and go somewhere else.
