A heavenly location, heavenly hosts, and exquisite food. We have known about "The Edge" for years, but never had the chance to visit until this summer. I would return in a heart beat. Living off the grid (truly off the grid, not just a marketing statement) you can a real appreciation for solar powered living - without sacrificing the good things in life! The lake is so clean and filled with island, I recommend any triathlete or open water swimmer visit "The Edge" as you have distances of 800m, 1500m, 4km - everything you'd need to train! And they have tonnes of kayaks so paddling is fantastic, and while we didn't cycle, the daughter of our hosts Todd and Martha treks out on 100 to 120km cycles so everything is there. But what is most profound about the Edge is the sense of place, the ability to truly escape, relax, reflect, appreciate nature, and enjoy one of the many wide open spaces of Canada's beautiful landscapes. They have high-tech compost toilets so city folks - you can survive, and as promised, there were very few bugs! I couldn't believe it but it was true. Their guests range from corporate retreats, to Peruvian Monks (hosted by Martha Lucier a Shamanism specialist), to specialty groups to 'regular folks' just like us. I highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a corporate retreat, wanting to learn about sustainability (host Todd Lucier is one of Al Gore's training team members). Tourism professionals and businesses wanting to know what it is to truly design your business for sustainability and invest strategically for 20 years ahead of the curve - check this place out. In a nutshell - WOW.
