“Wonderful Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

My husband and I stayed at the Haven Hotel at the end of September. We both thought the standard of accomodation was excellent. The double room was very spacious and the bathroom was large and had a bath. There was plenty of hot running water and the shower was superb. We ate in the hotel on a couple of occasions and the food was to a very high standard.
The staff at the hotel were friendly and very helpful and overall we found the whole experiance very enjoyable and we would have no problem recommending the hotel to any one else.

“You can hear everything in the room above and below, I mean everything!”

The reception area was quite pleasant and had a warm comforting touch as you entered, however it all went downhill from there. The en-suite room was of a good proportioned size and it came with 2 single beds, a TV, chest of drawers, desk and wardrobe (all which looked like they came from the 1980s, and I don’t mean stylish 1980s, I mean more like your grannies 1980s with flower patterns etc.) The bed was uncomfortable and let’s be honest, small, I was hanging out of it! The rooms do not had the advantage of double glazing so be prepared for the room to get cold, unless you have the electric fire on (do all the rooms have an electric fire like this?) the bathroom was very very cold, really outdated and it was a job to keep the water from the shower spraying all over the bathroom itself. Fresh towels were supplied and tea and coffee facilities were in the room and a very small flat screen TV. As for my sleep, well what sleep, all I could here was the couple above me having constant sex, it felt as if there was a cd player in my room playing the best of sex sounds! The walls were incredibly thin, and because of the noise and banging headboards of other rooms the floors and ceilings must have been thin too! Breakfast was included, which was a full Scottish breakfast, cereal, toast, juice, caffeine etc., so at least that was something to look forward to after a fierce night in the battlefield. Oh by the way the room gets very cold at night, and because the electric heater does warm quickly but doesn’t keep the room at a constant temperature, you will either freeze to death, or fry to death. I use trip advisor for reviews of hotels abroad, I have never had to use it for one in Scotland, but because of hotel I feel it is my duty to tell you to stay away. If the hotel was half the price, then fair enough you can put up with that sort of service but it wasn’t!

The hotel at first glance looks like it will have character and charm, and for the money you spend for a night you would expect it do, but it was rather a disappointment.

“Snoring Hotelier above us!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

Our room was very dated with rose shagpile carpet- bed was average at best- and the overall decor looked like someone's daughter had moved out in 1980!

The bathroom was new-ish but lacked the final detailing such as edging and trims on the flooring and the shower curtain made it impossible to not get water everywhere- needs to be re-thought.

The worst thing was (and just our luck after traveling all day) the snoring that could be heard ALL NIGHT from the room above us- the man at the front desk when we checked in-presumably. We were supposed to stay three nights but moved on after one.

Room Tip: choose another place to stay!- or a room on the first landing would have been better but we didn'...

“Could be so much better!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 September 2011

We stayed for two nights, and our room was a decent size but a bit dark and gloomy partly due to the small window, but this was not helped by the weakest bulbs I've ever tried to see by, in all the lights apart from those in the bathroom! It was difficult to dry our towels as all the heated towel rails in the hotel had had to be disabled, but we were sorted with clean dry ones after commenting.
The staff were absolutely brilliant, and the breakfast was superb, but the hotel is just a bit tired and dated, although that may well be a plus point for some guests, adding to it's character.
The cost seemed pretty steep considering the quality of our accommodation, but perhaps other rooms were better - £20.00 a night cheaper would probably see us come back to give the Haven a second chance, as we loved being in Plockton.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Haven and would use it again when staying on the West Coast. Plockton is a great village with lost of lovely scenery nearby. The staff at the hotel are very knowledgeable about the local area and keen to help.

Room Tip: There is a suite at this hotel that sleeps 5
