“A Stay in magical Assynt”

This was a quick three days in Lochinver to get out into the beautiful country that is Assynt and Coigach.

Cathel, who runs Polcraig, couldn't have been more welcoming and his knowledge of the local area is immense (see recent TV programme).

The B&B was excellent and met all our needs, not least a very efficient drying room!

All-in-all, an excellent experience.

“Very comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Great stay in very comfortable house overlooking the harbour. It was easy to find and situated in the centre of things. Cathel was very welcoming and gave us a great recommendation of the Riverside Bistro for dinner.

“The Pillar Mountain was fab”

Polcraig Guest house was an excellent choice for me, the owners have thought of most of the irritations which can plague you when you select a place to stay, you know like the shower not being quit right, the breakfast being a bit of a poor effort, the bed not being comfortable, hearing the people next door etc etc. Well have no fear, not here with these guys all is much better than expected. Check it out.

Room Tip: Ask Cathel if he can give you a lift to your start point for that huge first day walk, dont tell him...

“Best breakfast I've had in Scotland, lovely people”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2011

My husband I stayed here for one night in April 2011. We liked it so much we went back for another night on our way back through. Great location in the middle of town (although close enough to nature that my husband encountered a female deer in the car park at about midnight). The hosts are lovely - and extremely knowledgeable about this wonderful area - especially if you're interested in fishing or hiking around Stac Polly or Suilven. The room was immaculate as was the bathroom, with nice shower gel, fluffy white towels etc and a tv in the room. But the best bit was the superb breakfast. The usual full Scottish was enhanced by optional extras of either a generous portion of the excellent local black pudding or a delicious piece of salmon. I think there was another option (might have been a kipper?) which I would be keen to try next time. We would happily go back. If you're in Lochinver, dont miss the wonderful pie shop (perfect hiking snacks). Handily, the local butcher can not only supply great meat and sausages but also disposable barbecues, burger buns, barbecue sauces, fresh milk, plus fresh fish to order.
