“Couldn't be better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

This was our second trip to Ancrum Craig, the first being October last year. There is a warm welcome awaits you on your arrival with a welcome cup of tea, which is most appreciated after a journey. The rooms are very comfortably furnished, in keeping with the house. The selection offered for breakfast would suit anyone's taste and for folk who don't normally have a cooked breakfast, we very much enjoyed the home/locally produced food. Our only problem was that we couldn't stay longer................ but all being well we will certainly be making a return visit to this beautiful house set in a beautiful part of Scotland.

“The best guest house in the borders.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2011

We have just reluctantly returned home from our latest visit to Ancrum Craig. I can't praise this haven of peace enough. When you first see it as you go up the drive it looks a really lovely building full of character. There is a large, splendid ,south facing, well kept garden at the front and it is lovely to sit out there in the sun. On ringing the bell you will be greeted by your friendly hostess and offered refreshments. It is so peaceful, quiet and relaxing. There are only three rooms and we have stayed in two of them. The rooms would fit right into a luxury city hotel but have the added charm of an old country residence. The views across Teviot dale with the Cheviot hills in the East and Rubers Law in the West are magnificent and second to none, It is lovely to sit on the chaise longue looking out of the huge bay window in your room until the sun starts to fade and you can see bats flying through the trees. The rooms have every comfort, the hospitality tray is well equipped and even sweets are provided. The furnishings are excellent. the en suite bathrooms are modern, roomy and spotlessly clean (as is the room) and contain all the toiletries you could need. As for the bed ! I am always reluctant to get up as the bed is huge and soft with nice soft pillows and we always sleep soundly.
The breakfasts too are well above average with eggs straight from the hens running around in their enclosure, very tasty bacon and everything to go with it. The dining room is very pleasant with large windows to look at the view while eating and there is a nice lounge available to visitors who want to use it.
Ancrum Craig is excellent value for money and we will always return as long as we are able. There are plenty of things to see and do in the area and the countryside is lovely. The hosts are very friendly and can advise you about the surrounding area.
Not to be missed!!!

“another perfect stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 April 2011

At very short notice my wife and I booked this guest house and the help we received couldn't have been better. Right down to our own electric blankets to warm up our bed. Thoughtful touches make this a joy to stay in and whenever we are in the Borders this will be our only choice.

Room Tip: You need not to worry all the rooms are great

“Don't waste your time trying to book !!”

I cannot review this accommodation as I was not afforded the privilege. Myself and 2 friends are to walk the St Cuthbert's Way in September. I am in the process of devising the itinereary. When I called to enquire re accommodation 6 months hence I was immediately told that Ancrum Craig was 5 miles off the walk. We knew that detail in advance and were happy to arrange transport to the hotel at the end of our walk. I then asked for 3 rooms for single occupancy - I was told that Ancrum Craig did not accommodate single people. I was not even given the opportunity of enquiring about paying full price for a double toom!! I suggest this proprietor should not be in the hospitality industry and I certainly recommend that his details be removed from the various websites supporting the St Cuthbert's Walk.

“Ancrum Craig is as good as it gets!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

2010 was our fifth visit to Ancrum Craig. When we are there the time flies by, just when we want to linger. The place has that affect on us. When I discovered it on the internet, I found it hard to believe it could be as good as it looked and sounded. It was and more. Even when it's rained, which it hardly ever has while we have been there, the area and the views are just as beautiful. Everything is as good as it gets! The food, the bedrooms, the beautiful drawing room, the garden where you can sit and ponder, take you back to an earlier more serene time. I would recommend Ancrum Craig to anyone and everyone.
