A beautiful week in a traditional Spanish grand house. Lovely style furniture (no flat packs here). Well stocked bar and courtyard a pleasure to sit in. Rooms were clean, well aired with a range of toiletries. Excellent staff, always helpful and pleasant. Can really recommend this hotel.

This hotel is located in a historic property on the loveliest street in Santillana, and has off street parking in a lot behind the building (a real plus in the crowded old quarter). It was rated as a 5-star property, and the price was very reasonable for that rating. I believe that it should be rated no higher than 4-star, but the price for our room would still be a bargain with that rating. The lobby area is small and fairly dark (which is not that unusual for a historic boutique hotel).. The desk staff were OK, but not overly friendly. Our room was nice, but I would have expected a larger, more luxurious room given the 5-star rating. There didn't seem to be any places open for breakfast near our hotel, so we ate at the hotel and it was Ok, but once again nothing special. All in all, my expectations may have been too high with the 5-star rating, but it was a good value for what we paid, and the location is great.

I was so excited when I checked into the hotel. It is beautiful and my room was lovely, albeit I had to stand on a chair to look out of the window). Staff were always lovely and helpful. My only negative about the hotel is the food, which was fairly dire. At breakfast I asked for a croissant and was amazed when they presented with me with something that looked like roadkill. Very odd. Generally we found it almost impossible to find anywhere good to eat. So a great place to go if you want to lose weight. The area around Santander is almost completely devoid of interesting things to see and do. We had hired a car and went to everywhere the guide book suggested and we were very disappointed. The hotel was the high point of our trip.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our tour of Northern Spain. The hotel is amazing, beautifully furnished and decorated. We had a lovely room with terrace and the bathroom was tastefully refurbished. The town itself as all reviews have mentioned is very touristic and busy. We didnt spend a great deal of time there, just a walk round the town. We had a day driving along the coast and stopped at Santander which is a great City and well worth a visit. I think 2 nights was long enough in Santillana. The breakfast was excellent. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This was definitely one of the best hotels we stayed in on our trip. I got a very good rate through hotelclub.com.
