“Superb long weekend winter break”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 November 2011

We have just spent a wonderful long weekend at L'avenida. The hotel is beautiful with wonderful design, spacious rooms and very cosy. Tania and Laura went out of their way to ensure that our stay was perfect - suggesting great restaurants and places to visit. We had a room on the second floor with stunning views over Soller and the mountains. All the rooms are stylish and individually decorated. I understand that in the past L'avenida has closed in early November for a few months in the winter. We were very lucky that this year they are staying open and I highly recommend a stay at this time of year. There are lovely walks in and around Soller to some of the nearby towns such as Fornalutx and Deia. I recommend the walk from Soller to Fornalutx (about an hour at a leisurely pace) that will take you through mountain scenery, goats and sheep, orange and lemon groves and pretty hamlets. There are a couple wonderful traditional Majorcan restuarants in Fornalutx for lunch - also with fantastic views. Soller itself has some interesting little shops, a lovely square in front of teh Cathedral for a drink or a coffee while you watch the world go by. We also enjoyed the Saturday market set up in the square

Have stayed in many nice hotels but the quality and warmth of service at L'Avenida is special.

Room Tip: second floor rooms for best views. all rooms individually decorated and lovely.

“Great people in a great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 October 2011

We stayed a week in late October 2011 at L'Avenida and enjoyed it very much. A century-old beautiful mansion in the centre of Sóller turned delicately into a comfortable hotel. But with the casual friendliness and caring attention of owners Tanya and Paul and their staff (Laura is a gem!) it was more like staying with friends at their home. If that´s how you like it, choose this place!

“Great stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

Stayed during two nights to get away from work and see the beautiful surroundings and L'avenida hotel was absolutely fab!! Tanya and Paul were so welcome and as a single travelling younger female I could not feel any more home or safe. They always remembered names and story of the guests which is admirable.
My room was great and the breakfast great with healthier alternatives. Loved the coffee as well! The staff members Laura and an Argentinian gentleman also both were exellent in their services.
Great rooms, views and attitudes.
The only thing I did miss was a thicker duvet since I am always freezing! I never asked for it though, it was not really a problem.

I would defenitely go back again.

“Feel ripped off!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

I can really only say that we were thoroughly disappointed by our stay in October 2011.

The place is nice enough, and the staff - especially Laura - really try to make you feel welcome. Therefore, we were inclined to ignore the fact that the restaurant was shut except for breakfast - although a prior warning would have been nice; the same applies to details like the very unreliable wifi access in the rooms.

However, we were seriously disappointed by the attitude of the owners when we had to return home four days earlier than planned. Instead of showing some understanding we were surprised to be charged in full for all four remaining days, in total 1100 Euros. The owners who have been praised in previous reviews chose to hide behind their own "hotel policy" which they didn't even bother to discuss with us personally but sent a staff member to do so instead. Their business decision to ignore us and charge us in full is something that we've never experienced before in the many years of extensive business and private travel, many times in 5+ star hotels. The owners went on to "very generously" offer to reimburse us in case they'd be able to sell the room. How pathetic - how likely is that in a practically empty hotel entering the low season?

So if you would prefer not to be treated this way or are less than 100% sure you will be able to stay the whole time maybe you want to look elsewhere for a more customer-oriented management team!

It is rare for me to write a response on Trip Advisor but on this occasion I feel absolutely compelled to do so.

Firstly, as many previous guests know, and I hope future guests will discover, we genuinely care about our clients whilst on holiday with us – we understand that holidays are incredibly precious.

At the same time, as in any business, you have to have Best Practice Policies laid down. I do not believe that there is a hotel in the world, nor airline, car hire company or cruise operator, that do not have a transparent Cancellation Policy as part of their Best Practice.

We do not 'hide behind´ our Cancellation Policy. It is clearly laid out on the web portal through which this client booked his trip, as well as our own web site. And we do not 'hide behind' our employees. When this client checked out I was on my day off. We have wonderful receptionists to bid farewell to clients when they leave.
However, when a guest does have to leave the hotel suddenly, we would always refund the days not stayed if the departure was for compassionate reasons. Or we would try and find an alternative date for the client to come and stay. On this occasion, the client informed us he had to leave early to attend a business meeting. Despite our Cancellation Terms, (and because of the people we are), we did offer this client a refund if we were able to sell-on the room, However, as the client rightly pointed out it is very difficult to sell rooms on such a short term basis. This is the very reason that all hotels have Cancellation Terms!

The review that this client has posted is against travel industry cancellation policies in general. We run a small business that genuinely cares about our clients, but I am afraid we are a business and not a charity. Without protective Cancellation Policies there would be no hotel for future guests to enjoy.

“Small boutique hotel with character”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

My wife and I spent 10 days at L'Avenida in mid October 2011. The owners Paul and Tanya went out of their way to make us feel valued clients. Their staff were friendly and attentive; we were particularly impressed by Laura (from Argentina) - a wonderful example of a beautiful atitude. We ended our holiday refreshed and happily recommend this hotel to others looking for something a little bit different. If you want to experience the splendid scenery of this part of Mallorca (very popular with walkers and cyclists) Soller and L'Avenida is a good place to be based.
