You cannot wish for a better location for a hotel. All round views in and a historic building.
This should have been a great one night experience which was ruined by a very officious member of staff in reception. Whilst we were waiting to check in, other guests waiting at reception were told in broken english to "be quiet" and wait ! We were then set about by the same male receptionist when we were told our identification documents were not adequate for booking into this hotel and then proceeded to inform us of laws that certainly pre date Spain's entry into the EU. This stay was at the tail end of touring throughout Spain and stays in 6 different hotels without any problem with our ID's. After a lively 15 minute argument the documents we provided were strangely adequate for the police registration that is required when checking into a Spanish hotel. We are resident and work in Spain in the Hotel trade and well aware of the regulations regarding personal ID documents be it passports, ID cards, or EU drivers licences.
We nearly walked out and went to another hotel and would have done so if arrival here hadn't been at the tailend of a 6 hour drive and that it was 39ºC outside.
The location and rooms were everything you would expect from a Parador.
We eat in the restaurant and had the 80th anniversary celebration menu which seemed like good value and would have been if the suckling pig had not be deep fried to the point where it was almost inedible. The restaurant surroundings were good and the the serve efficient but beware of the suckling pig, such a disappointment.
Good place to stay if you can avoid the receptionist, a late middle aged male that seems to dominant the right hand side of the check in desk.
