If you want to enjoy true Black Forest atmosphere and excellent cuisine, this is your place - at least, unless your are on a budget. The Adler is a very traditional hotel, family-run by five generations, and continously boasts a Michelin-star since the red guide for Germany was published for the first time in 1966.
The building still look like a traditional Black Forest house, although some extensions have been added (which are barely noticeable). The atmosphere in the public buildings and in the rooms is throughout refined rustic charme as typical for the region.
The junior suites are bright modern, very spacious and equipped with all luxury. Huge balconies.
The wellness area is huge and state-of-the-art. There are not less than four saunas/steam rooms, a large pool and a small gym, which is, however, equipped with Life Fitness machines (for those who do not know: the best of the best). A highlight is the steaming hot jacuzzi out in the garden - very nice in winter with snow all around.
Another highlight is, of course, the restaurant. Expect gourmet cuisine on Michelin-star-level, but with a solid, traditional orientation. The wine cellar is unbelievable, and on the wine list you find some fully aged true gems (we stuck to a 1978 Haut-Bailly at a very fair price).
While the rooms are expensive, food and drink is affordable. Especially for lunch you can get excellent regional dishes for 10 or 12 Euros! Or sometimes, we ordered just a starter, like seared scallops with risotto and small vegetables. Since we were served an amuse bouche and some sweets afterwards, it developed into a full meal for 19 Euros.
Location: Häusern is a small village right in the middle of the Hochschwarzwald. The landscape is beautiful, hiking trails everywhere, and short distances to Sankt Blasien, Schluchsee, Feldberg etc. The Rothaus brewery is also nearby.
