Dont expect glass and chrome when you visit the Jehan Numa Palace in Bhopal. The colonial charm of the hotel is what sets it apart from the rest. The long driveway, the brick portico and the sprawling construction are all part and parcel of the old-world hospitality that I have come to love in this hotel.
In a smallish metro like Bhopal, the proximity to the business centres really dont matter. But overlooking the lake, this place does bring out a sense of calm and peace to an otherwise torrid day. The room service is also pretty good- 7 mins to get a pot of tea at 8 am. Not bad!
We were given a room next to the pool- on the ground floor. Not that I'm complaining, but since I was travelling with a colleague, we would have preferred separate rooms. Unfortunately, either they were all booked (which is slightly surprising) or the manager simply didnt want to. Ah well!
The food is terrific! Massive breakfast spread- one that could last you atleast an hour. Apart from that, do visit the coffee shop next to the reception. And if you're from a big, expensive metro (like me) be prepared to be pleasantly surprised.
What the hotel could do is to up its mini-bar. Tea/coffee and biscuits is simply not enough. But otherwise, this hotel would be my first choice in Bhopal.
