“Good value for money, and nice staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

My wife and I stayed at the Petra Palace Hotel in November 2011. We had spontaneously booked there after having found it on Tripadvisor.
It is one of those hotels that one books for value for money only. We wanted a clean bed, a large enough room, and decent food as one spends most of the day in Petra (which is amazing!!!). We got exactly that. It was a nice room (the corridors need more light though), it was clean, and the food was actually very good (there were lots of French tourists staying, so that's maybe why). Overall, we loved our time in Petra, and this is a good hotel to stay.
My recommendation to the hotel: please install Wi-fi for all rooms.

“Make sure you get a renovated room or your stay will be poor!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2012

This was booked for me through our travel agency. I learned from previous reviews that portions of the hotel was renovated. I requested to our agent to book a renovated room. Unfortunately on check-in, that was not what we got. It wasn't until we explored the darkly lit hotel that we stumbled on the renovated section, and requested a change for our last night. The hotel had less than 10 rooms booked and I don't understand why they still put guests in the old rooms! It would have left a more positive impression if we were in the "renovated rooms" to begin with! Keep in mind that although renovated with a bigger room and nicer bathroom, the bedding and towels were still old. I used to work in the hotel industry and 5-star hotels often sell their old furniture, towels and linen to lower-end hotels, which is what I saw at this hotel: hand-me-downs probably from the Movenpick and Crowne Plaza next door!

All the renovated rooms have floor to ceiling windows. If you don't see this in your room, go back to the front desk and request a change for a more comfortable stay!

“nothing special”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 December 2011

unfortunately in Petra is normal to pay more than the Jordanian standards and to get... more or less the same as wherever else over there!
nonetheless you can't miss it... so more than complaining the old structure, its very much faded furniture and its expensive internet connection, try to be happy with location, which is at a walking distance from the archeological site, and enjoy being there

“Perfect Choice for me”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

I came with a group so did not personally choose this hotel, however was very happu with it despite there being no free wi-fi. The buffet dinner was the nicest I had all week and the restaurant staff were very friendly. Breakfast was good too but let down by weak tea and coffee. The room was not so large but clean and warm with a good view of the hillside. There was also a hairdryer and UK type sockets. The location is excellent for walking to Petra and Wadi Musa town. There is a bar in the hotel which plays western music and is frequented by the locals if you want to engage in some interesting conversation.

“Comfy Amra Palace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 November 2011

My mum and I loved our 1 night stay at Amra Palace. Our room was clean, nice, comfy, ok sized although it was a bit dated and rather far away from the Petra Heritage site. Yet a very good price-quality ratio. Very helpful staff everywhere (front desk, restaurant, floor cleaners etc). Excellent breakfast buffet and very inexpensive dinner buffet. Good variety of services.
