“Very basic with staff not focussed on customer service”

I stayed at this hotel with a friend for two nights. It is very basic and nothing special with regards to the hotel itself.

The location has plus as well as negative. The plus is that the view from the hotel is beautiful especially the sunsets. On the negative side - it is far from the center of Wadi Moussa and Petra. You have to get a taxi to go to the town and Petra.

When i made the booking through the agent for Etihad holidays i asked the agent to mention that it will be my friends birthday on the first and if they can arrange something special like a cake or a fruit basket. I was prepared to pay for it. We went to Petra on that day and on our return there was nothing in the room. I went down to reception and asked the person on duty if they received the request. He looked on the computer, said they did not receive anything. He then turned around and continued with a conversation with a colleague. No question to ask if they can offer anything. I was shocked at this absolute lack of customer service.

The previous evening we were sitting in the lounge area for nealy an hour without anyone asking if we would like something to drink. We then made coffee in the room. I had to ask for a replacement mug as one of the mugs had a huge crack in it.

On the morning of 1 Feb we even had paper serviettes at the breakfast table. The staff working in the dining room were also not friendly. The breakfast buffet is very small.

The rooms are not big with basic amenities. The towels were white and i am sure at one time they were crispy white and fluffy. The paint of the bathtub was also peeling in some areas.

All in all this is not a hotel that i would recommend. We could not even take a photo of the hotel as we were told that it is not allowed for security reasons.

“Amazing sunsets but far from Petra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

The views from the bar area during sunset really are incredible. These really made the stay worth while for me. However the hotel really is quite a way away from Petra itself. The hotel provide a bus down in the mornings but you have to find your own way back up (the hotel is at the top of a BIG hill – no way you are going to want to walk that after a day in Petra!) Room itself was lovely, huge bed, exceptionally clean. Breakfast was a little basic from what I would expect from a 5star but what was on offer was good. Decided to have dinner in the hotel’s Italian restaurant one night – this was a mistake. Food nice enough but was massively over priced (we forgot about adding the tax on when we initially looked at the menu) Getting a taxis into town would have been much cheaper and just as good quality)

The service was very friendly. Only trouble we ran into was when we tried to book a place on the bus to move on – they were totally clueless and not keep to help. However when we came to check out at 5:30am the guy on reception was SO helpful. He fetched us some pastries for breakfast (which didn’t really start till 7) We’d booked a taxi to take us to the bus station, which he did, he then waited with us and phone round for us when it didn’t show up on time. Very much went above and beyond.

As long as you are prepared for the distance from the hotel to Petra, the views of the sunset make it a great choice.

“Great views, steep prices, not 5 star quality”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed overnight on 24th January in Petra at the Marriot which had been booked for us by our travel agent in Sharm el Sheikh. Our first choice hotel the Crowne Paza was closed for renovations.
The Marriot has a fantastic location on the hill above Wadi Musa and Petra and you can see the hotel from some parts of Petra itself.
I don't know what the cost of the double room was as it was part of our package trip from Sharm el Sheikh. However the drinks were eye-wateringly expensive. A gin and tonic and a local beer cost over 17 Jordanian pounds, over 16 British pounds/US$25 while the bottle of sparkling water we had with our dinner was over JOD7 or 6 British pounds/US$10.
Also, although the window in our room, number 707, had a great view the window didn't fit the frame properly resulting in an icy draft. Unfortunately the duvets were heavyweight so sleeping alternated between baking under the duvet or freezing in the draft from the window.

Room Tip: Avoid room 707 and buying drinks

“Breathtaking view!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

It was nice staying at this Hotel. As usually Marriott offers wide, soft and comfortable beds, along with it's endless pillow selection.
But the view is what the Hotel really exceeds when compared to the other known hotels around. It is dazzling to wake up and have breakfast facing the beautiful hills and mountains of Petra.
I also experienced the sauna that was quite nice, typical to the jordanian/turkish sauna.
The dinner and breakfast offered a wide range of Arabian cuisine. Delicious.
Regarding Petra. 5 min by car and you are there. Breathtaking!

“Unbeatable View”

Stayed 2 nights at this location and found it very enjoyable. Room had a great view of the mountains surrounding Petra. Ate at the Italian restaurant which was fine. Location is about 5km from the entrance to Petra which was OK as we had a car. Staff was friendly and helpful.
