“A relaxing budget hotel, in a beautiful place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

We stayed for three nights in the Dana Tower Hotel and would have stayed longer had we had time. The sprawling building has a range of rooms with different views and set ups - we expected to be staying in a dorm but were given the Honeymoon room for the same price! The best feature of the hotel is the rooftop terrace - split over three levels, there is ample space to find a quiet corner with a view over the nature reserve, and curl up with a book, or pick a social spot to share your adventures with fellow guests. The communal meals (dinner, excellent; breakfast so-so) made for a nice social experience too. However, there are no shops in Dana so bring spare cigarettes if you are a smoker. Also, make sure you visit the visitor centre in the Dana Guest House to find out about the reserve and the community regeneration programme that is underway.

“The Friendly Staff will bring you back!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

Clean and moderately priced for the area. A stay in the heart of a village re-emerging from the ruins of the past. With a fabulous view of the Dana Nature Reserve. Visit the local craft center (Helping Nature, Helping People) where silver jewelry, fruit preserves, canvas bags. candles and other items are made. Local herbs are also packaged and sold. Or walk around the town and visit with the friendly locals. You won't be a stranger long! Then come back for a sunset view, a hot supper, tea and a chat with other guests. Be sure to sign the big book commenting about your stay. Be prepared to climb stairs and walk on uneven stones (in the streets as well). Summer is hot with no air conditioning. Fall is nice. Local hikes are available--guided and unguided. A hidden jewel is the springs at the end of the road where you turn off to go to the village. An early morning trip to Rummana Campsite is well worth the trip. On a trip around that campsite, you may see various animals and birds--don't forget to take your camera, plenty of water, follow the trail markers and be quiet to see more animals. Box lunches are available from the hotel.

Room Tip: Many rooms have a private bath--more than any other hotel in town. There are first floor rooms avai...

“Come as a guest, leave as a friend!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 August 2011

Our stay at Dana Tower has produced so many memes for us, but you will have to visit yourself to find your own/ours!

Dana Tower Hotel was a really pleasant surprise - dirt cheap, yet some of the best food we had in Jordan (half board, and hotel packed lunches if you wanted them ~5JD extra), amazingly friendly staff, endless cups of mint tea and rooms full of character. Granted the experience was fairly rustic, but it fitted in well with our trip to rural Jordan.

No negatives (well, bring your mozzie spray...just in case), please go and give Dana Tower your custom! It is truly unique.

“Reserved room given to other guests, rude reception, no apologies, thrown out”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 June 2011

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 small children and already reserved our room several months before arrival and reconfirmed a couple of days before our departure to Jordan by mail. We learned from other reviews that the hotel has one bigger family room with balcony and view on the valley, so we asked to reserve this room for us and this was also confirmed by mail. I also asked in my mails until which hour it was possible for us to arrive and Mr. Nabil Nwafleh answered twice "welcome at any time".
After spending a nice time at Wadi Weidaa with some local guys we set off in the late afternoon to Dana Tower, following the deserted road parallel to the Dead Sea and reached Dana Hotel short after 21.00h. To our surprise, the owner informed us our rooms was taken by other guests because we arrived too late and he blamed us for not checking our mobile phone because he had spent an enormous amount of money in sending SMS messages to us. Not one word of welcome. Our phone didn't have any reception during that whole trip and we never received the messages, but anyway, we were offered alternative rooms by the assistant (didn't get to know his name) who was in Mr. Nabil's office, near the entrance, two rooms connected with very steep steps and shower / toilet somewhere further down the main alley. The rooms were so small that we couldn't even get our luggage into it. Also one room contained one of the narrowest beds I have ever seen in my life. The matresses were a complete horror for a human backbone and I couldn't even put the mattress on the ground because the space between the beds was too narrow. So we were offered another room with only 3 beds and no space to put a 4th bed (without our acceptation he started preparing the room, deciding himself that one of our kids should sleep on the ground and was mad when we told him we didn't want to take this room). In his anger, he ultimately tried to offer us a very smelly room with own toilet but no window near the kitchen. We quickly realised that the owner and his assistants were overstressed because of the arrival of a large tour group and that is probably why we all of a sudden had become unimportant and they wanted to get rid of us. Nevertheless, back in the office Nabil and his assistant offered us the family room with balcony we origninally reserved for our next night if we would return the next morning.
So we were left with no other option than to look for an alternative room for our first night which luckily was only 50metres down the road at Dana Hotel, where we were received with the usual Jordan hospitability and enjoyed a delicious evening mail. The next morning we returned to Dana Tower at 10.00h and met the assistant again who announced us that we arrived again too late and the family room was taken again by other guests. This second refusal was a bit too much for us especially since he knew we were staying next door at Dana Hotel and he could easily have contacted us there.
We returned to Dana Hotel for our 2nd night, but they had no place so we went again to Tower Hotel and asked for an alternative room, which we were shown outside of the hotel in another street under their restaurant, Again the room had only three beds, but a fourth bed was brought in, which meant there was no space left in the room, you could only crawl from bed to bed, luckily there was an entrance hall with toilet and shower where we could leave our luggage (although we were unable to lock this place at night). I immediatelly felt the beds had catastrophic steel bars and very old mattresses. Also the room was pitch dark and full of mosquitos well hidden on the straw with mud ceiling. There was even more trouble with blankets and sheets, the bathroom was wet and slippery all over, under the weak light from the single bulb it was impossible to read a book and worst of all the toilet was clogged.
The only positive note, the food was okay,
With pain in our backs and after a bad night's sleep we asked the asistant to offer us a price reduction. He obviously was offended and refused any discount, so I finally asked him to at least apologize. He brutally refused and asked us to leave his property immediately. I was under the impression that if I would have insisted he would have turned to physical agression. One positive note however about the Philippine ladies in the kitchen, as they prepared the delicious meals and helped us out with missing blankets and sheets... Worst hotel service in 30 years travelling.
