I just came back from a New Year's trip in Bansko and I must forewarn all future tourists - the town looks like a construction site - no greenery just holes, stones and new buildings. The buildings on their own look charming, and probably in a few years after all construction activity stops, this will be a nice destination.
We stayed at the 5 star hotel Guiness - I am only waiting for this hotel to be added to tripadvisor to write a dismal review. This was the cheapest (and I dont mean pricewise) hotel in the history of 5, 4 and 3 star hotels. When you add to this that we did not have water to bathe, drink, etc. for 3 days (starting with 12/31, and most of us celebrated new year's unshowered) and the broken elevator, cold water pool, broken sink, broken shower, cheapo furntiure, horrid service... you get one huge disappointment.
But back on track - hotel Tanne was a 4 star hotel we visited for dinner and I was very pleasantly suprised. It is located on a quaint street, with no construction in site, has a very nice garden, the restaurant offers EXCELLENT meals and superb servce (maybe my standards were so lowered, it seemed like the Ritz), and I honestly felt sorry we were not staying there. I recommend - it looked very nice.
