I called and reserved a room a couple of days in advance for a 2 night stay over the 4th of July weekend. Gave a card number, got confirmation... everything seemed okay. 2 days later as I'm driving to the motel, I get a call from the girl at the desk trying to confirm my reservation since "I failed to show up the night before". I told her this was a mistake and that my reservations were for Friday and Saturday night. She told me it was no problem and that someone there had made a mistake while entering the reservations. I showed up at the motel a few hours later. They had already charged my credit card $66 the day before because of the mistake. The woman proceeded to charge my card for another $66 for the second night, told me that they would adjust the days and everything would work out even. Made sense to me and all was well. My girlfriend and I put our bags in the room and left to drive into Hot Springs (which, come to find out, has got to be one of the poorest, most dilapidated cities in the U.S... NOT recommended...). We were gone for a very short time, I headed back into the office with a smile to pick up some pamphlets on local sites etc. The woman at the desk looks at me and says "We have a problem". She proceeds to tell me that there is a man who says that he will only stay in the motel if he can have the room that I'm in. Apparently they have double booked the room. Unbelievably, she asks my girlfriend and I to move into the room next door so he can have our room. Then she tells me that my credit card was charged an additional $155 while I was gone. It seems that they went ahead and had me pay for this guys room as well as mine!! I had been in the room for maybe an hour, been asked to move, and been charged $288 for my trouble. They acknowledged that the charges were a mistake. When I asked the woman at the desk to refund the money she said she was not able to and said I would have to wait for the owner of the motel to do it. In fact, the woman even flat refused to simply make copies of the receipts for me. I then spoke with the owner of the motel on the phone who told me that $288 was not that much money and I should be able to wait for my bank to put the funds back into my account. I asked her to just give me the cash and leave the charges as they were and she said they didn't have that kind of cash there. To which I replied "I thought you said it wasn't much money?"
The entire episode was crazy. My girlfriend and I actually thought we were on candid camera at one point.
It's my opinion that the ownership and staff of this motel are totally inept and I cannot believe that they are allowed to treat people in this manner.
Oh yeah, also the swimming pool is falling apart and the water has so much chlorine in it that it must be not unlike swimming in sulfuric acid.
