“Anami Villas was not the highlight of the trip”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 January 2008

Hi, My family and I went to Anami Villas in Perla Marina for 2 weeks this Christmas. It was myself, my husband and our two boys (aged 4 and
7). This was our first trip to the Carribean (we’re from Canada) and I was looking for some serious relaxation and luxury. Unfortunately I was more relaxed at the beach than at the villa.

First and foremost I want to say that the staff at Anami Villas (David
the gardener, the maids, Pastor the night watchman, and Claudia and her family) were extremely friendly and went out of their way to try to make our stay wonderful.

We had some troubles with the hot water and the gas stove the first few days. It was fixed right away, but my main concern with this was that they knew for 6 months that we were coming and they didn’t ensure
everything was ready for us. Also even after the hot water was fixed there wasn’t more than about 5 or 10 minutes of ‘pretty warm’ water for a shower - and it only worked in one of the showers. The shower heads had low flow and were poorly maintained (water shooting everywhere) and the tile grout was black with mold. I don’t mean to be too picky but they do advertise luxury and this was not it. Take this next comment with a grain of salt because I do have arachnophobia. A spider the size of a dessert plate was able to creep under the door and then actually ran at me! Gross. Anyway - my point here is that the windows and doors were not tight fitting. Bugs of all
shapes and sizes were able to get in especially those tiny little flea
looking things. We had a fairly big ant problem too. There was a hole in the floor of the closet in the bathroom and the first day the ants showed up there were hundreds of little ones all over the bathroom so we sprayed them with OFF and that seemed to do the trick. The next day
the ants were back (maybe a hundred or so) only they were twice the size, again we sprayed them. The day after that they had wings, as awful as it was by this point I just had to laugh. It was like that episode of ALF where they sprayed the bug and it got bigger and bigger. Anyway...after we killed the winged beasts the ants stopped.
Not all of the window locks worked (by locks I mean flimsy pieces of metal that fit into a little loop like a public washroom stall lock - only flimsier). I didn’t feel at risk of burglary (or worse) though, the night watchman and the security for the entire neighborhood seemed
very good.

After the stove was fixed the kitchen was fairly good. Although the
“potable” water supply was a 20L jug sitting on the counter fitted with a pump that looked like it had been through hell and back. The water was opened and about 1/4 of it gone when we showed up. I had no idea how long it had been sitting there open to whatever so I didn’t use it. The dishes and silverware were fairly nice but the pots and pans and cooking utensils looked like they had been picked up at a garage sale. The fridge and freezer worked nicely and there was double
sinks.

The bedrooms were good, nicely decorated (in fact the whole house was beautiful) and the air conditioning worked very well (although I couldn't get a few of the remote controls to work). The dressers and furniture were very nice. I’m lucky because I like hard beds, but if you don’t then you might want to sleep on the tile floor because it would have been softer. The bedding seemed clean and the pillows were nice.

The maid service was great. I loved not having to clean up everyday. It was one of the things I was most looking forward to and it didn’t disappoint. Although be warned they do not have clothes driers so your
laundry gets hung to dry - so if it rains you're s.o.l. Here’s a good tip - don’t bring cotton clothes they take forever to dry, even if it IS 32 degrees and sunny. Stick to micro fibers. I know, I hate them too, but down there it’s really a necessity. Even if you do have clothes driers, when you go to the beach you’ll get wet and sandy and micro fibers just seem deal with that stuff so much better than good
‘ol cotton.

The pool was beautiful, David did a great job maintaining it. Always clean, very nice. Maybe it’s just me, but I guess‘whirlpool’ is not synonymous with ‘jacuzzi’. The water was cold in the whirlpool. All in
all I enjoyed myself, but I will not be returning here, as it was not worth what I paid. It’s sad too, because the place is so beautiful
and everyone is so so so fantastic and friendly.
