We went to this Hotel recently and we were very disappointed. Not only was it incredibly loud (until 4:30 am with partiers at the pool and on their patio), it was not what we expected. We were looking for a quiet vacation and both nights we stayed, we were up in the middle of the night for 2-3 hours listening to people party outside. Finally, a staff member told them to quiet down at 4:30 am on the second night.
Breakfast was supposed to be included and I never saw a scrap of food at the hotel. Really for those looking for a quiet nice place to stay and expect more than just a bed, look else where. You get what you pay for...aka, can't flush the toilet w/paper, have to turn a dial 30 minutes before for hot water (and then you get it for about 5 minutes). I understand it is a third world country but we left and went to another hotel where we could flush, had hot water, actually received breakfast and it was quiet (yes, we did pay more).

Our stay at Hotel Tropix was great. The pool was very nice to have to cool off. We had a very filling breakfast served to us every morning poolside. The rooms weren't luxury, but more than adequate for the area. We paid about $35 a night. There is a grogery store 1 1/2 blocks away with anything you will need. Restuarants were 10 minutes away. There was a fan in the room, as well as air conditioning and a refrigerator. We spent very little time in the room. The Sosua beach was about a 15 minute walk away. We took a "bus" to Cabarette for about 3 pesos. They stopped at the street corner 1/2 block from the hotel. The hotel is 1/2 block from the main highway. The noise wasn't ever noticable. I would definately stay here again.

Tropix Hotel is centrally located but nestled in a quiet part of Sosua, so everything important is close by including shops and sea but far enough from the bustle so sun weary tourists can comfortably siesta in the bungalows amongst the palms and star jasmine flora. Carl Shaffee along with the helpful staff gave us all the necessary information to gently transition my friends and I from the New York craziness to the tropical lakadaisical downtime. The hotel is not fancy but provides all the simple, clean and comfortable necessities for a restful vacation. Best of all, it's super cheap to stay there!

This was my first trip to the Dominican and really lucked out. Small and quaint, no loud crowds. Nice little pool and easy walk to some b-e-a-utiful beaches. Touristy stuff is not too far but a nice getaway from it all. And the best part is being an American who speaks little Spanish the owner is a super sweet guy named Carl from NYC. For the price, you can't beat it :)
