I just wanted to write a little something about my 2nd stay at the Casa Cayena during the month of April of this year. I was there in Sousa for the week prior to Easter Sunday, from Good Friday to the Thursday before Easter, I believe this time of the year is known as Semana Santa in La Repulica Dominicana. My first stay ay the Casa Cayena was November of 2010 during the American Thanksgiving week.
I was once again very pleased with my 7 night stay at the Casa Cayena. Being a native of Los Angeles, California I much prefer late November & April than the more humid summer months. . . .And this week in April was super, from the time I arrived, we had 6 continuous days of sunshine without an a drop of rain. The hotel front desk staff was once again friendly, very helpful, & willing to assist in any problems. The management was installing a new camera security system throughout the hotel. They also had completed their new safety box room which by the way still closes at 11:00 pm (the only major bummer).
During this stay I ate at the hotel restaurant every morning. Since it is included in the nightly charge of $50.00, I decided to enjoy the food, & enjoy I did. You can order anything from their breakfast menu. I enjoyed the pancake, & french toast dishes the most, with my eggs over easy, bacon, fruit, & jugo de naranja . . . The basic 2 eggs, bacon, potatoes, & toast was satisfying enough as well. They have a big screen television in the open air restaurant that normally is on during the breakfast hours. So it was kind of nice to catch the morning sports or news. Over-all, for my tastes, the food is above average in comparing with other Sosua local breakfast spots that I've eaten at in my prior two visits.
The rooms surround the pool area, so as you walk out onto your patio (1st floor), or balcony you have a view of the small, but adequate simming pool. The rooms on the first floor open up into your patio, & to the pool area. The hotel satff accommodated me with an extension cord for my I-pod & speakers. This allowed me to bring my music out into my patio area while I enjoyed my daily late afternoon swim, & a couple of ice cold Presidente's before showering & heading down to catch the daily sunset off the cliffs by the Waterfront Restaurant over looking Playa Alicia. The house staff cleans the rooms daily, with freshly washed towels, they are always avaialble during the day for anything you might need.
As I have mentioned before in my original review of the Casa Cayena, for the price of $50.00 per night w/breakfast, it is certainly a little gem of a hotel. With a friendly & helpful staff, more than adequate rooms, a nice little swimming pool area with beach chairs & umbrellas, & a dandy open air restaurant cooking up a mix fair of Comida Dominicana, American, & Italian, one can't go wrong staying at the Casa Cayena.
